Even in the Soviet Union service was better. This joint is really a shame and a scandal. Even in the Soviet Union the waiters were more civilized than in Volna. Probably this restaurant is only a cover up for a bratsvo. The authorities could better have a closer eye on this place. Before this so called restaurant is sued, avoid it. If not, take the risk that you will be cheated of will become sick after drinking such a innocent drink as coffee with milk. If it would be possible to re-erect the NKVD for just one day and one assignment, restaurant Volna would be a good target.

What NOT to Do in Brighton Beach. Have a lovely day at the Beach and decided to go to Volna for a few Baltika beers and perogies, cold borscht and greek salad. The waiter was from outer space, looking like he was hearing voices while he took our order. We muddled through the service somehow but what was worse is that we went back an hour later to use the bathroom to be accosted by surly staff that the bathrooms were for customers only. I guess it didn't matter that we spend 2 hours between eating drinking and waiting for the slow service if we weren't customers "that moment." Being made to feel like criminals after dumping a load of cash Volna makes me scream "No...Nah...Again!"

I'll keep my cash & they can keep the ice cold perogies. It's the beer that's supposed to cold, not the food.

Stay away. Went here once with friends. Terrible experience. Our waitress was... how do I put this... hygienically challenged, and could barely speak English. Thankfully I'm fluent in Russian. Our food took forever to arrive and was poor quality. The waitress messed up our bill and we were charged for a bunch of extra stuff we didn't order. Instead of apologizing and revising the bill, they argued with us. Stay away from this place at all costs! You'll have a better experience packing some sandwiches and eating them at a nearby boardwalk bench!

Terrible Service and mediocre food. Sat down at Cafe Volna for a late lunch on Saturday. We would have been much better off with corn dogs down the boardwalk.

The service is absolutely terrible - it wasn't until we were waiting 30 minutes for my husband's main course (mine having been delivered and getting cold while we waited) that we noticed people all around us craning their heads to look for their waiter, and then a few tables just leave after not having anyone come by.

The food was ok, but it wasn't great. I had lamb kebabs, and maybe I just happened to get a very fit lamb, cause the meat was pretty tough. The red cabbage was fine, but the peas were canned and by the time I ate them, ice cold.

Husband's meal wasn't much better. After protestations of "it's coming in one minute" which we translated as "shoot, I forgot to order yours", his dinner arrived 30 minutes after mine, and when he cut into it (Chicken Kiev), all the liquid leaked out all over the plate. Obviously frozen - the piece had been thawed in microwave and then deep fried, and while edible, it sure wasn't great.

Our appetizer dishes sat on the table the entire meal, and joined the lunch plates and empty glasses. None of the wait staff or bus staff seemed to get the concept of table maintenance, or selling. Your drink could sit empty the entire meal, nobody would ask if you wanted another.

Maybe the place is ok for a coffee in the middle of the afternoon - when you have nothing but time. The location is perfect for people watching.

Perfect for coffee at least. My friend and I were walking the boardwalk on a cold windy winter's afternoon, looking for something warm to drink. We stepped into the Volna and they very kindly agreed to let us sit in their dining room just for coffee. Crisp and clean, the room was empty, but there was a low hubub of russian coming from another room. The coffee and tea were hot and good, the view lovely and the waiter, who sat in the same room with us, friendly but unobtrusive. It was one of the best hours of my life.......

Terrible Dining Experience. We got there around 8PM and our order was taken in 3 minutes. From there it took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Our appetizer (escargot) was bland and tasteless. Blandness of our appetizers was made up with over-saltiness of the entrees. Salmon in cream sauce was too salty as was the pasta accompanying it. We also ordered pelmeni, which were just as salty. When we complained to the waitress, she said there is nothing she can do-- thats just how the kitchen makes it. I strongly suggest avoiding this place.

volna review. bad experience:

1) unorganized staff

2) light business this day JUly 5,40 minutes for order to come

3) minimal portio

4) food was lousy

5) couldnt wait to finish

6) 10% service charge and waitress indicated that an additional tip is suggested ????

first and last time...........
