Fun and Cheap (for NYC)

We had a great time at Melody Lanes this afternoon. For NYC bowling, it's reasonable. And the staff were very helpful.
Welcome former Mark Lanes customers
by Mimmer
A good place for former Mark Lanes customers to patronize! Some of the wonderful former staff are there on a part time basis.Family night is a decent deal, 2 games for $12 per person including shoes and free popcorn and a small soda for children. They have a pro shop on the premises to purchase personal bowling equiptment with custom drilled finger holes, something rare these days. The bar is very good and reasonable, and of course there is a snack bar.My only qualm is their selection of bowling bawls, you must search for the right weight and finger holes to enjoy your game.Scoring equiptment is computerised modern, and up to date with fun visual images and a choice of with or w/out bumpers.
- Pros: Family oriented, affordable, friendly, pro shop on premises
- Cons: Bowling Bawl selection
Great atmosphere - but be prepared to wait
by Nikiinbrooklyn
Once we got through the hassle of getting in, we had such a great time at Melody lanes - a casual, upbeat family atmosphere and affordable. But be prepared to stand in some lines if you come on a Saturday night. Each employee had a lot more than their fair share of work - therefore there was a wait for everything. I'd called earlier in the week and asked if i should need a reservation for a Saturday night and been told no, but next time I will definitely call ahead, because there was a 1/2 hour + wait. Then there was standing in line for shoes.
And a burger and fries took over ninety minutes to be ready.
We played tag team standing in line for soda refills between turns bowling. Then there is standing in line again to return shoes. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who want to bowl in Brooklyn!
The neon light thing was going on in the half of the alley away form us - and looked REALLY cool. Next time!
I don't know how it is on other nights, but if I return on a Saturday I'll 1) make a reservation 2)eat before arriving 3)be familiar with the options of paying by time or per game before getting up to the counter to pay.
- Pros: great atmosphere, great fun, even good shoes!
- Cons: overwhelmed staff anf waiyt times for everything
