Who Knew?!? San Remo Pizzeria.
In Italy, practically every pizzeria has a sit down restaurant in the back room. They all serve pasta and they almost all are great places for dinner. The food is carefully cooked, the portions large and the prices much lower than the Restorantes or the Trattorias.
San Remo has been a fixture on Cortelyou road for decades and they always made good pizza, but no one would take a date or a spouse there. It was certainly not a place for making a good first impression or quiet conversation with the kids screaming for their slices and sodas.
But things have changed!!!
Cortelyou is now a hot spot with several good restaurants and this marvelous evolution has now spread to San Remo. San Remo has opened up its mysterious back room and is serving beer and wine. While the restaurant room is not elegant, it is clean and homey.
The first three rules about restaurants are The FOOD, The VALUE and The PORTIONS and San Remo wins on all three.
Real standouts are Caveletti with sausage, broccoli rabe, white beans and garlic and the Lassagna, real plate fillers and done with care. The service is friendly and prompt. There are many wines under $30 and a dinner for two, appetizer, pasta, dessert and tip is easily under $40.

great service and food!.
I use San Remo's all the time for delivery, as well as eat-in on my way home from work. Though the wait is sometimes in the 45 mins to an hr zone, they are always prompt within the paramaters they give me for delivery, and the food is ALWAYS worth the wait. The gentlemen who work there are always friendly and some are pretty cute, too! While all this is great, they do close a bit early (10) most nights, which is especially hard on those weekends!

i concur with other reviewers.
tucked away on cortelyou off of c.i.a. this dank little pizzeria flexes its culinary accumen. i have thoroughly enjoyed each slice type that i've tried here. the plain pizza is fine, but their skill lies in some of their other offerings. the vegetable slice was heaped with fresh veggies, perfectly prepared...not too garlicky. the white pizza was also quite sturdy. squares come in sicilian and grandmas style...both delish.

Best Pizza in all of New York City!.
Being that I grew up in the neighborhood, my whole childhood all i can remember is San Remo's always being there. And now that i live in Maryland, every time I drive up to New York, this place is the first stop I make to get something to eat. The sauce is the best! I recommend trying a cheese slice, a mozzarella and tomato slice, and for the pasta lovers, try the penne a la vodka! Those are top on my list. Yummy! The guys that work there are great too! Very friendly and personable.
