What People Are Saying About L & B Spumoni Gardens

In Short – Famous for its deep-dish Sicilian pies, L&B is three restaurants in one: Outdoor pizza counter, spumoni stand, and indoor restaurant. Picnic tables, crawling with neighborhood families, ring the exterior of the slightly more formal sit-down restaurant serving hero sandwiches, pastas, seafood dishes and traditional Italian entrees. As for the main attraction, the pies are known for their crisp outer edge and gooey middle, and feature the unorthodox layering of sauce over mozzarella.
Good Food, Crappy Attitudes
by Brooklyn Foodie
I've eaten at L&B's on many occasions. The last time we went there it was for a friend's casual birthday dinner. The food was pretty good but the wait staff are so pushy! They kept pressuring us to get this dinner special - we didn't want it, plain and simple. The waiter/manager/whoever kept coming back to us and telling us to order it. After refusing for like the 5th time, he stopped nagging. However, he brought a sample to our table without being asked. It tasted good but whats with the harassment?
In addition, they lavished attention on tables that ordered their special but kind of threw us dirty looks. WTF? We were a huge group and ordered tons of food!
The food is good, but not good enough to endure the machismo of the wait staff. They are oftentimes pushy and rude whenever I go in there. We eat there on occasion when we're in the mood for some pasta. Its convenient location for us.
This place is also a hang out for Bensonhurst townies, which can be a turn-off for some people from other parts of Brooklyn. Its not really a big deal though.
- Pros: Good pastas
- Cons: Staff are pushy and rude
Reputation sells

L&B is a place that is fondly thought of due to it being such a Brooklyn staple. The pizza is hit or miss (although it's been hit more lately). The restaurant is actually pretty good, with a simple Italian menu and a home-cooked type vibe to it. If you don't want the 18th ave feast to be the only place to see people you went to high school with, then this is the place for you.
- Pros: Classic hangout spot, decent pizza
- Cons: Overrated
L and B has good italian dishes & spumoni not great pizza
by Jospeh In Brooklyn
For 20 or more Years I have heard about how great these square slices were at L and B spumoni gardens. Well i must say i was let down big time. Average crust, not great, Decent sauce, also not great. Not enough cheese on the pie. A diffrent type of pizza is good once in a while, this is defanitly diffrent, but it will not blow you away or have you wanting to run back there the next day for another slice or two. I would say its like making a trip to OUTBACK steakhouse. The steak is not great, but people like goin there right? Well can you compare a steak from Outback with a steak from Peter Lugers?
I DONT THINK SO!.
I would have to say that most people whom speak great about this place have had to been raised on this pizza, or have shared alot of special family moments at this place, also maybe people feel comfortable and get a good vibe when at L and B. However It is just not a place you can seriously rate so high up with Difarras. lombardis, Grimaldis, Lucali, Johns of bleeker, Totonnos. These places i mentioned are some Heavy hitters when it comes to truely great pizza
Make a trip and try it, if you know Great pizza i am sure you will agree.
- Pros: Good Spumoni & Outdoor Eating
- Cons: Pizza is not worth the wait
