On the reccomendation of our family, we have used Arecibo for two years and have loved and hated them. The cars are çlean and comfortable and the drivers are very pleasant, safe and knowledgeable. However, the service is not consistently reliable. We have been stood up too many times and just taken a cab. It is more than annoying since we are frequently going to the airport and time is crucial.
The dispatchers are the worst. They are abrupt and don't take time to get full information. Today we called and were told 5 minutes which is their standard. In 15 minutes there was no car. I called back and was again promised a car in 5 minutes. That car didn't show so I called back VERY mad as we missed our appointment and went back home as ther were no cabs around.
When I called Arecibo to complain, I was told that they picked up the wrong person. That was a lie as there were few people around and not much traffic on the two lane street. We would have seen somebody take our car had that been true. Also the dispatcher hung up on me when I complained. I did saw they are a rude lot!
Three stikes plus in my book counting all the other times we and other family members have been stood up! We will definitely look for another car service.
Worst Car Service...period. – Worst car service I have ever dealt with!!! The day of my wedding we had scheduled a number of cars to pick up the wedding party, as well as my soon-to-be-wife and her mother. I made the reservations a couple days in advance, and was very specific on the phone that this was for a wedding and being late was not an option. I live in a high-rise, and left phone numbers for the drivers to call to inform us when they had arrived. The first round of cars that was supposed to pick up me and all the wedding guests was 20 minutes late. On top of that, I ordered one car for 4 people, and a second mini-van for 6. What I got was one car and one compact SUV (it was a Toyota Rav 4 or something) that we then had to cram 6 people into. We finally got into the cars, and were on our way. My wife and mother-in-law were supposed to be leaving 15 minutes after us, and they still hadn't heard from their driver (keep in mind the first group was already 20 minutes late, so now the second car for my wife is about 30 minutes late). I called and kept getting put on hold. When I finally spoke to someone he said the driver had arrived, waited 5 minutes and left. I asked if he had called the number I supplied, and all I got from the dispatcher was puzzled silence. Obviously I was quite angry at this point because my wife was standing on the corner of a street in Brooklyn in a wedding dress waiting for a ride that wasn't coming, so I asked (as calmly as possible) that they get a car back to the corner immediately. I was told it would take 5 minutes, so I said fine and asked if I could pay for all the cars on my credit card. After arguing with the dispatcher about the price (he tried to charge me for a mini-van when that clearly was not what we got), I paid and got out of the car at the site of the wedding. 15 minutes later I received a call from my mother in law saying there still wasn't a car. I called Arecibo back again, this time livid, and asked where the car was and the dispatcher said "I told you it was going to be 20 minutes..." At that I hung up, nearly throwing my phone across the street. I got a call a minute later saying my wife had found a car to take them, and that they were on their way, nearly 45 minutes past the time they were supposed to get picked up. In short, if you have to be somewhere on time or would like to travel in any modicum of comfort I would suggest passing on Arecibo. Filthy cars, poor management, and absolutely no respect for scheduling...you can do 100 times better for the same price with any number of other services. I learned my lesson...and I hope it will save you from having to learn about Arecibo the way I did.
Super Car Service – I have been using Arecibo for several years now and have never had a problem. I call, and I have a car in 5 minutes at the most. Their prices are also very good. But it's a recent experience that made me want to write a review.
I called for a car at 4 am to JFK, 2 minutes later I had a car, I was still half a asleep as I got out of the car. When I went to check my luggage I noticed that had I left my camera bag, with about $2,000 worth of camera equipment in it.
I called Arecibo, they radioed the driver, he found it in the back seat, and they said they would hold it until I got back. The whole process took about 5 minutes, and sure enough, at the dispatch office, my camera was waiting for me.
I always liked Arecibo for their prompt service, good prices, clean cars, and good drivers. However, it's especially good to know that if something goes wrong (ie: you are too tired to remember all your bags,) you can trust them you get it back to you, and that is priceless.
I'm really impressed. I heard a lot about this company and decided to experience by myself. after call them and provide my location, from Grand central terminal to Newark airport. I asked for the price, they replied 60.00 + tolls. I had to wait just 5 minutes to be picked up
Rude and Always Late! – This car service has been around Park Slope for years and for years I was loyal. But I just had to give up after the 100th time of them being late, rude on the phone and really rude when you call back after they are 20 minutes late with a car. I'm done. Would rather use, Family, New Belle or anyone rather than these guys. Never again.
Got me from point A to Point B – I scheduled a car pick up for 8 the next moring to take me from Prospect Heights to Brooklyn Heights. They were there on time. going there it cost me 11 dollars but coming back it cost me 10. I say they need a better pricing system, not that the pricing was outrageous, just not consistant. But i does the job andill call them again when i need them.
Price Quoted Might Not Be the Actual Price – It was just a dollar and I could care less but it is a matter of principal ... We were tired of walking all day so we asked the guy at the dispatch how much it would be to go about 2 miles. He said $7 and we said we would pay $6, he said okay that's fine. We got in the car and told the driver that we agreed on $6. He insisted on $7 and started driving. We kept saying that we had agreed on $6 however he just ignored us, turned on the radio and kept driving. We should have just jumped out of the car when he came to a stop. However, five minutes later we were at our destination and he kept insisting on $7. We paid him the $7 with no tip. I know that it was a only a dollar but when you agree on a price only to have it not honored it really bothers me. We will not be using them again. It's not like there are not any other car services.
worst car service ever – Just had the worst cab experience ever. Waited an hour -- dispatcher kept saying 5 minute, 10 minutes, 3 minutes. Will never call Arecibo again. If you can't trust the dispatcher, who CAN you trust?!
