In Short
The Salvation Army is an evangelical Christian organization that devotes billions of dollars and thousands of volunteer hours each year to disaster relief, social services and other charitable causes worldwide. With proceeds going directly to adult rehabilitation centers, the Army's many thrift stores play an important role in furthering the organization's mission. Patrons of the stores pick through a diverse selection of moderately worn clothing, as well as second-hand furniture, electronics, books and toys at bargain prices.

Now that the large Salvation Army on 13th St. in Park Slope has closed down, this location is the only place I know of for thrift shopping in the area. It's not huge, but packs in a lot of merchandise. That means, on one hand, that you have an ok chance of finding something if you dig through everything. On the other hand, it means that you have to deal with crowded racks and, sometimes, a store crowded with donation bags. Most of the clothes are decently priced, although they try to get away with some unreasonable prices on dresses, VHS tapes and CDs. There is no dressing room, just a mirror in the back. I have dealt with rudeness from workers before while trying things on in front of the mirror, although that's what it's there for. I would give this place 2 stars, but I go anyway when I get bored and want to go thrift shopping, so for people in the same situation I would say it's worth a try. PROS: some good bargains CONS: no dressing rooms, rudeness, crowding, disorganization, some unfair prices
