Brooklyn >Medusa Salon Inc
“After visiting several salons in the park slope area recommended by friends and recieving one awful haircut after another, I decided to try Medusa's based simply on the AWESOME 50's pin up girl- red velvet couch decor.”
“If your looking for a good cut and dont mind the price then pick something better, this place is not worth the value.”
“really enjoyed my experience there, and plan to go back.”
“The music was great and the price is inexpensive for the service.”
“The cut was done with good skill, but not better then other places for the price I payed.”
“arrived with apologies ten minutes late and was treated with a really nasty attitude and told my cut would be rushed.”
Unfailingly good cuts @ very good prices. First I had Jessica, who really "got" me weird hair, but she moved back to CA and I thought, "Oh no! After three years with her how am I going to fare with someone else??" Now I have Heather, who's a Park Slope native returned to her roots, and who is smart, kid and knows how to handle my new hair "issues." A low-key, no BS salon, with funky decor and stylists who know their stuff. And the best thing: really decent prices! I love Medusa!!!
I usually pay $15 for a hair cut but not always excited with the result. So I thought I'd try paying more. I paid $70, then $15 for the tip.
It was the WORST haircut of my whole life. I came in there just wanting a trim. Simple. I asked her to cut my bangs about to my eye brows or a little higher. My bangs are embarrassingly short. I should have just done it myself. Now I feel awful and am out $70.
And she insisted on blowing it out. The dryer was so hot that my hair is frizzed and damaged. When I walked in there I liked my hair and just wanted a trim, but she was talking about making it less heavy. But now it just looks terrible and has less body.
What a disaster. I want to cry. Couldn't she have cut them just a little first?
Keratin Complex treatment.
I am taking the time now - before work - because I actually AVE time before work to write. About 2 months ago I went to Jessica Rose for a Keratin Complex smoothing treatment. She is certified for this process and I was in desparation.. I have medium length, somewhat curly, color treated hair. My hair is prone to frizzies and split ends and truly does what it wants. Bad hair days outnumber good hair. I would get excited when I had a 'good bangs' day.
The Keratin Complex treatment smooths the hair follicles, gives it shine and makes blow drying a breeze. It was a long process and Jessica's attention to detail made it all worthwhile... I honestly have not had a bad hair day since then... I am blown away by the ease of upkeep. (it is guaranteed for 3 months but I was told it could last longer with proper care - proper care being using the Keratin shampoo and condition) . I can now run a brush through my hair and I am ready to go.. I can actually blow dry my own hair without the need for being a contortionist with dryer and brushes. I use my fingers!
Even with all the rain and snow we have had - no frizzies! and I still have shiny bouncy hair...take the time, spend a little extra and GET this treatment! It is truly the best thing I have ever done for my hair
bad service and bad attitude.
Sadly, this place didn't deliver. I got a crappy dye job and when I needed them to fix it they gave me a load of doodie. I paid $350 for the favor of purple hair (I'm blonde. wasn't looking for purple. they screwed up the toner.) they "let" me come back the next day t get it fixed.
do yourself a favor and go to Rapunzel Rapunzel (where I just went) and get it right the first time! They truly know what they are doing at Rapunzel, and I paid half of what I did at medusa. and the dye is organic!!
Cool salon but after too many bad haircuts I called it quits. I have medium length curly/wavy hair and usually go in just asking for a trim. I saw Mari for my first cut and it was OK. Then I saw Jessica who gave me a great haircut the first time I saw her. The 2nd one, was another OK, but the first one was good enough that I went back; to get one of the worst haircuts ever. I walked out of there feeling like I looked like a homeless woman that didn't know how to comb her hair. I could not believe a stylist would let someone walk out of your salon as your 'advertisement' looking like that. I pulled my hoodie up and went home to see if i could make it look better. The verdict - not really. And it was cut in such a way that a corrective cut probably would've been worse. I had to buy new product to get my hair to look anything presentable. I had given her license on that cut - wanting to shorten my hair a bit. What a mess that turned out to be. When I finally could not take it anymore, I cut my hair myself, something I have NEVER done before and felt so much better immediately. If you can believe it, even after that I went back again - to Jessica - and got a good cut! So, I went back what would end up being my final time. The haircut seemed to be going well when she pulled out the thinning shears (I have extremely fine hair - it is not thick & I'm pretty sure it does not need thinned) and then she twisted my hair into locks and cut up the shafts - totally wrecking any chance for my curls to keep their shape. Furthermore - she cut one layer really short & left the other one long - so I had this two-tiered cut that I couldn't pull back and would not look good unless I was straight out of the shower, if I was lucky. So yeah, that was it! I like the place and the vibe but I guess unless you can really speak up and tell your stylist exactly what you want or don't want (I'm not great at that obviously), I wouldn't recommend this spot. Plus the cash only pay is burdensome.
DEDICATED TO NATASHA. First time to citysearch here, but I felt compelled to review my hair cut & color, it is absolutely amazing! I'm a customer who comes regularly from from another state just to get my hair done at this salon. Natasha does an AMAZING job with my color and cut. I've been many shades of blonde for many years, and a lot of times I haven't been too happy. Natasha has managed to give me such a wonderful natural color, with lots of beautiful highlights! I'm often asked who does my hair. I owe it all to Natasha! Give her a try you won't be disappointed, but good luck getting an appointment she only works the weekends!
Bad Cut-Good Color. The star rating applies to the hair cut, not the salon in general. I had my hair cut a week or so ago by Jessica Rose. I wanted a trim, but I ended up with a badly layered, choppy cut which will take a good 3-6 months to grow out. For some reason, she also used thinning shears on my hair, which only made things worse. Maybe she was having a bad day, but I was left with one of the worst cuts I've had in years.
Too snooty to cut my hair. I arrived with apologies ten minutes late and was treated with a really nasty attitude and told my cut would be rushed. When I offered to reschedule, if she couldn't do a good job, was told I might as well leave, and treated to snickers and laughter. I've been treated better when inadvertently late for a surgeon... or could it be I wasn't the right type of client for this hipper than thou salon? Would never set foot in there again!
Turned My Hair Brown Green!.
.I recently moved to the slope and wanted to try Medusa after seeing what seemed like pretty decent reviews. It's only a block or so from my apt, and seemed like a really chill low key place.
My hair was very long and in dire need of a trim and I hadn't had a touch up on my blond highlights for at least 5 months. I requested that they match my roots to the rest of my blond highlighted hair.
I sat in the chair for what seemed like forever, and then waited while I processed. Then after I was shampooed they put some weird toner on my hair (WHICH OF COURSE I SAID I NEVER HAD A SUCH TONER).
when they took the towel off my head my hair was MUCH darker than the roots I came in with. To make matters worse I had horrible bleedmarks from the highlights. She worked quickly to chop off at least 4-5 inches of my long hair after requesting that no more than 2 inches be cut off. 3.5 hours later.....
She dried (by this i mean just shook my head around with the dryer haphazardly) and I left with a head that was still damp. When I saw the almost dry version it was a mousey brown with a ting of GREEN. Checking out they charged me $180! To be honest, I didn't even realize how bad it was until I got home and immediately burst into tears. My hair was GREEN. Literally.
I trekked back to Manhattan to my old salon cutler to get this mess fixed asap, thank god i did. The saint who fixed this mess let me know that if I had waited this gross toner would have been much harder to get out. Once the toner was out, it revealed the butcher job she did with the highlights...bleed marks GALORE. My girl re did my highlights and brightened me back to gorgeous blond, taking her 3 hours in total to correct the mess. I won?t even SAY how much THAT cost me on top of the $180 I had already paid. Needless to say, stay away from Medusa unless you wish to have hair that resembles well?the name says it all.
LAILAH IS A SPINNER OF COLOR MAGIC!.
I came into Medusa with fugly orange hair after trying to lighten it at home myself. Lailah gave me an honest evaluation, and painstakingly hilighted and toned until my hair looked natural again, and it even looked like the hair color I had originally been trying for!
Jessica Rose also gives fabulous cuts, and everyone there is great! Well worth the cash!
