Unfailingly good cuts @ very good prices

First I had Jessica, who really "got" me weird hair, but she moved back to CA and I thought, "Oh no! After three years with her how am I going to fare with someone else??" Now I have Heather, who's a Park Slope native returned to her roots, and who is smart, kid and knows how to handle my new hair "issues." A low-key, no BS salon, with funky decor and stylists who know their stuff. And the best thing: really decent prices! I love Medusa!!!

So sad

I usually pay $15 for a hair cut but not always excited with the result. So I thought I'd try paying more. I paid $70, then $15 for the tip.

It was the WORST haircut of my whole life. I came in there just wanting a trim. Simple. I asked her to cut my bangs about to my eye brows or a little higher. My bangs are embarrassingly short. I should have just done it myself. Now I feel awful and am out $70.

And she insisted on blowing it out. The dryer was so hot that my hair is frizzed and damaged. When I walked in there I liked my hair and just wanted a trim, but she was talking about making it less heavy. But now it just looks terrible and has less body.

What a disaster. I want to cry. Couldn't she have cut them just a little first?

Keratin Complex treatment

I am taking the time now - before work - because I actually AVE time before work to write. About 2 months ago I went to Jessica Rose for a Keratin Complex smoothing treatment. She is certified for this process and I was in desparation.. I have medium length, somewhat curly, color treated hair. My hair is prone to frizzies and split ends and truly does what it wants. Bad hair days outnumber good hair. I would get excited when I had a 'good bangs' day.

The Keratin Complex treatment smooths the hair follicles, gives it shine and makes blow drying a breeze. It was a long process and Jessica's attention to detail made it all worthwhile... I honestly have not had a bad hair day since then... I am blown away by the ease of upkeep. (it is guaranteed for 3 months but I was told it could last longer with proper care - proper care being using the Keratin shampoo and condition) . I can now run a brush through my hair and I am ready to go.. I can actually blow dry my own hair without the need for being a contortionist with dryer and brushes. I use my fingers!

Even with all the rain and snow we have had - no frizzies! and I still have shiny bouncy hair...take the time, spend a little extra and GET this treatment! It is truly the best thing I have ever done for my hair

bad service and bad attitude

Sadly, this place didn't deliver. I got a crappy dye job and when I needed them to fix it they gave me a load of doodie. I paid $350 for the favor of purple hair (I'm blonde. wasn't looking for purple. they screwed up the toner.) they "let" me come back the next day t get it fixed.

do yourself a favor and go to Rapunzel Rapunzel (where I just went) and get it right the first time! They truly know what they are doing at Rapunzel, and I paid half of what I did at medusa. and the dye is organic!!

• Cons: staff don't care what you look like when you leave

Cool salon but after too many bad haircuts I called it quits

I have medium length curly/wavy hair and usually go in just asking for a trim. I saw Mari for my first cut and it was OK. Then I saw Jessica who gave me a great haircut the first time I saw her. The 2nd one, was another OK, but the first one was good enough that I went back; to get one of the worst haircuts ever. I walked out of there feeling like I looked like a homeless woman that didn't know how to comb her hair. I could not believe a stylist would let someone walk out of your salon as your 'advertisement' looking like that. I pulled my hoodie up and went home to see if i could make it look better. The verdict - not really. And it was cut in such a way that a corrective cut probably would've been worse. I had to buy new product to get my hair to look anything presentable. I had given her license on that cut - wanting to shorten my hair a bit. What a mess that turned out to be. When I finally could not take it anymore, I cut my hair myself, something I have NEVER done before and felt so much better immediately. If you can believe it, even after that I went back again - to Jessica - and got a good cut! So, I went back what would end up being my final time. The haircut seemed to be going well when she pulled out the thinning shears (I have extremely fine hair - it is not thick & I'm pretty sure it does not need thinned) and then she twisted my hair into locks and cut up the shafts - totally wrecking any chance for my curls to keep their shape. Furthermore - she cut one layer really short & left the other one long - so I had this two-tiered cut that I couldn't pull back and would not look good unless I was straight out of the shower, if I was lucky. So yeah, that was it! I like the place and the vibe but I guess unless you can really speak up and tell your stylist exactly what you want or don't want (I'm not great at that obviously), I wouldn't recommend this spot. Plus the cash only pay is burdensome.
