The ring counter is nestled in an alcove in the back of this eclectic handcrafted jewelry and gift store, originally opened as a pottery studio in 1969. You'll find a knowledgeable staff with a laissez-faire approach to sales. The clientele's a "progressive" crowd--including many same-sex partners--less concerned with sporting a big rock than with buying something artful that will make a strong personal statement. You'll find 75 different artisans from across the country represented. Many work the diamond into the design instead of putting it on ostentatious display. Attention to detail…
Awesome Wedding Ring Experience!
by schoir
I went to the store after browsing through their website. They have an awesome array of unique wedding rings.
They carried the designer, but not the specific style I wanted to see, so they ordered a sample band for me from the designer. While I was still contemplating (about 2-3 weeks after seeing the ring), they called me to notify me that the store was starting a sale on all wedding bands -- 10% off. I remember thinking that it was a great way to make me come back -- and it worked! I bought the ring through them, and they delivered as promised. They also helped me get the band resized and adjusted until I was completely satisfied. All along the way, they gave me updates and acted as my advocate with the designer. It was truly a worry-free experience.
Fantastic Engagement Ring Experience

Last fall, my fiance and I started shopping for an engagement ring; more to the point, he allowed me to design it. I have very specific tastes: 1. No diamonds (I wanted sapphires, but had a blacklist of countries I didn't want them to be from for political reasons); 2. Modest budget; 3. Antique setting. Of all the places to which I submitted this tall order (and there were many jewelers who either didn't reply, or couldn't guarantee conflict-free stones, or just wanted a ton of money), only the ClayPot responded in the positive. Because we were not in a hurry, they literally hunted for MONTHS for just the right sapphire center and side stones, even providing the provenance. They also introduced us to wonderful platinum smiths for the setting, and remained committed to giving me the ring I wanted within our budget. We were NEVER pressured in any way; in fact, we were given the option to purchase the stones through them and then have them put in a setting elsewhere if we weren't happy with the settings they offered. As it turned out, we found just the right platinum smith, and everything worked out wonderfully. In April, my fiance presented me with a unique engagement ring that has my personality written all over it: a champagne sapphire flanked by white sapphires, in an engraved platinum band -- and we get compliments on it ALL THE TIME. It is truly a success story. We are now finalizing selections for our wedding bands, and the ClayPot has definitely earned our business for them. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who is looking for a CREATIVE, knowledgeable, affordable, and stress-free jewelry experience. You can go outside the box without paying a fortune!
- Pros: Will go the extra mile; works with your budget; wide variety of designers and styles
- Cons: Can't think of any
Worth the trip!

My fiancee and I had been looking at engagement ring settings in Philadelphia and I hadn't found anything quite right. I wanted something handmade and a bit unusual. I started searching the internet for places in or around NYC, figuring I needed to cast a wider net. I came across the store's website, and it looked promising. We drove to Park Slope to check out the store in person and we're very glad we did. The service and selection were excellent, the prices fair, and our entire experience was positive. The people who helped us were attentive and knowledgeable; they were generous with their time and we never felt pressured. It was a warm, unpretentious and friendly environment. The long drive to get there and back was absolutely worth it. We received the ring yesterday and couldn't be happier.
- Pros: great service, selection and value.
