I have a Nook, but when I come here, I forget about it..
The customer service here is wonderful. Whenever I have had a question about a book, or needed a recommendation, the staff here has been highly knowledgeable. Here's one example: I once came into the store, and described my mother-in-law (who is always hard to figure out) to a random employee and asked what book I should get her. The employee chose three books. My mother-in-law wrote me an in-depth thank you note telling me how wonderful the books were. Impressive! The atmosphere in this store warms my heart and when I go there, I feel like I am visiting a friend. There is a an dog that lies around the floor there sometimes, a couple of sleepy cats, and an interesting iguana in a big tank. There is a piano in the children's section in the back and often there are tots back there banging away on the keys. The store smells like books and the sofas that are there are completely worn out (and oh, so, comfy). I will never stop buying books at this incredible store, even though I have become a Nook user. There's something very special about this place.

Best in Brooklyn.
The Community Bookstore is a step into another world with an excellent blend of the latest good reads, the classics . . . poetry, fiction, memoirs, travel, etc. The owner of the bookstore is so knowledgeable about authors and books, she can give you great recommendations based on what she knows you enjoy and also steer you in directions that you might not have gone in on your own. The shop is quaint - not too large, not too small although a few people of a weekend always wish there were a few more couches or chairs.
The people who work in the store are great - very good at learning their customers but they give you all the space you need. Whenever I order a book, it's generally in within a day or two and they always call promptly. We need to support our local bookstores like Community.

Community Service.
Community has been one of the good guys -- a small, non-chain bookstore -- in Park Slope for some time. With a good selection of literary books, a strong program of readings, and, of course, coffee, it's a vital part of the Park Slope experience. That said, it's incredibly cramped and overcrowded -- since the last thing they should do is cut down on stock, maybe they could expand?
