AWFUL. If I could give zero stars, I would. The guacamole was a bland liquid mush of I'm sure mostly filler. You couldn't taste the avocado! We were given like 10 chips and then when the 2 waitstaff employees saw we had nothing in our chip bowl they ignored it. We had to ask for napkins, twice. We had to ask for water, which came 10mins later. This place is tragic. We didn't even order. We were so sad by the 30 minute experience we had. Just awful.

terrible food and drinks. I love Mexican food and this is -- hands down -- the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten in. The food all tasted spoiled frying oil, and the margarita (which was watery and neon-colored) tasted a bit like bleach. The service was friendly and the prices are cheap, but the food and drinks are utterly gross.

Flavorless Mess. I really can not recommend this restaurant. Firstly this is a mexican restaurant with alcohol advertisements all throughout the restaurant. Upon placing our drinks order, we were told by the waiter "No alcohol". He said it in such a matter-of-fact way - without explanation - that I had to ask him a couple of times whether he was joking. He explained that they had not gotten their liquor license renewed yet (or something along those lines). But even if they do get their license back, the food is not worth it. I ordered the Chicken Ranchera with rice and beans. Every part of my dish was flavorless and the portions of rice and beans were meager. The chicken portion was a rather large sloppy mess. Be very afraid when your meat is covered and drowned in onions and pepper slop. My dinner partner had the same to report on his meal - everything on his dish tasted like nothing.

Viva Rancho Alegre. This is a very small but cozy spot. Margaritas are fantastic. So are the pina coladas.

The food is pretty good. Waiter service was prompt. This is the spot I wind up at all the time when I am in the mood for Mexican food.

Worst restaurant experience in a long time. We were seated promptly, & were given water quickly, but weren't handed menus-we had to grab them ourselves. Our waitress brought him a regular coke instead of a diet coke, and the salsa had OIL floating at the top. I ordered Cheese Enchiladas, he ordered Chile Rellenos. She brought us our food, and his order was wrong, so she took it back. Once she returned with the correct order, his re-fried beans were extremely dry (they looked microwaved to me), and his chile rellenos were 'disgusting'. Also, their rice bears a striking similarity to Lipton's 'Fiesta Sides Spanish Rice'. I'm sure they came from a package. We had to ask numerous times for the check, which was brought to us by a different waitress. We should have known that 'Tex Mex' sign meant we were in for a gross treat. But there is no excuse for the lackluster service.

The BEST margaritas. Although the food here is delicious, it's often nuked in the microwave. Go for the quesadillas, which are always made fresh, or the sizzling platters. BUT the thing to get here are their margaritas, they are among the best in NY. Not too strong, not too weak, just perfect and delicious. The atmosphere is extremely festive and fun, too.
