In Short
With expansion into the outer boroughs, Newark and Long Island, NYSC's locations have become so ubiquitous that New Yorkers are likely to have a location near work or home, if not both. This emphasis on convenience extends to its signature circuit training program, the 22-minute Xpressline--not to mention the range of equipment, from Cybex and Icarian machines to Hammer Strength free weights. Other offerings include classes that focus on core-strengthening, flexibility and kickboxing.

NYSC is more of a meeting place than a gym. I felt quite uncomfortable in this gym. Most females were made up head to toe as the muscle men sit and stare them down. I was hit on at least 3 times within an hour of my workout. I could only imagine what goes on in the motel which is conveniently located next door. If you are serious about your workout and not shopping for a date this gym is not for you. On the other hand if you are in dating mode than this gym is for you.

NYSC is a hole. I used to be fine with their unfriendly staff and less than hygenic facilities because they are cheap and conveniently located near my home and office. However, after having to deal with management about a money dispute, I have found that what you see on a daily basis goes on up the corporate ladder. Management has been not only unresponsive to my very reasonable complaints (as admitted by the local manager) but they are actually hostile. Basically this is the story: they fired my personal trainer and refused to refund me for sessions I had remaining with my trainer. Instead, they wanted to push someone else on me, but I said, at this time I really don't want to. A decent company would respect their client's wishes. It's only a thousand dollars and they are a corp doing millions in business. The hassle they are giving me and the endless lies and passing the buck just showed me that the personnel are incompetent and the corp has a culture that is disrespectful of customers. This goes up to the executives. Terrible customer service. Now it makes sense why their gyms are so filthy. I am quitting and going elsewhere.

This place is comparable to the Bally's Fitness Center along 86th Street in prices. The advantages this place has is the parking lot out front, while Ballys only has metered parking out front. NYSC also has weight rooms and aerobic/yoga classes for you to take and their facilities are much cleaner and brighter than Ballys. The one major drawback is their lack of a swimming pool. But all else aside, this NYSC has a friendly staff and hygienic facilities.
