Greatest video selection in Brooklyn.
This neighborhood video store has a truly great selection and the staff seems very knowledgeable. I love the way they organized their directors sections! The only negative thing is that it tends to get a little crowded at night, but it's still worth fighting the crowds.

In the mood for a "Twin Peaks" marathon? This is your place..
The Scene
If Blockbuster is for "Armageddon"-loving Joe Average, Reel Life is for the film studies major who never quite got over his fascination with the silver screen. The new releases are not the main attraction here: Their cases are wedged in sideways, almost as an afterthought, for maximum inventory and minimal marketing hype. Instead of the filmography of Bruce Willis, you'll find movies grouped by directors like Ed Wood, Kenneth Anger, Errol Morris and Luis Bunuel. Charmingly handmade collage signs mark other genres, like the robust foreign, cult and film noir sections.
The Goods
Rentals are $2 for one day; $3 if it's a new release. There is a drop box for off-hours returns. Although there are no DVDs or videos for sale, Reel Life will happily special order a title for you.

Hope They're Not The Slope Guys.
Are the owners of Reel Life the same as the owners of Reel Life South in Park Slope? Hope not. The Park Slope store has the least-friendly staff I've ever seen. Not even geeky cinophiles, just rude guys who don't say "hello" when you do, don't know the answer to ANY questions, and seem like they'd rather you leave than browse or rent. I was psyched for a Blockbuster alternative but the better selection at Reel Life isn't worth the unnecessary attitude.

reel people.
Fits the neighborhood like a glove, with a geeky organizing principle that I appreciate.
