Awesome! – I highly recommend Mousey Brown!! My experience at the salon yesterday was great. I just had my first day off in two weeks, just got over a really bad cold, was feeling pretty low, and was looking forward to a haircut. Friends had told me about Mousey Brown and I'd read great reviews but never got around to going. I've been looking for a salon and a stylist that I would like to keep going to but it's been so disappointing, my last haircut was super expensive and the color was not good at all, my hair was two different colors! I was a little nervous about getting my hair colored again but Lacy, at Mousey Brown made it look beautiful, she was able to get my hair back to its original color and gave me a great haircut. I'm excited about this salon, it's close to my house and the prices are more than reasonable, especially for the awesome work she did with my cut and color. Lacy is awesome and is very nice, and I look forward to going back.
Mousey Brown – My stylist was very nice but gave me possibly the worst haircut of my life. She cut my bangs in one chop while I was looking down, which goes without saying left them INCREDIBLY short. She also single-processed my hair, which is curly at the roots and so stands a bit off of my head - it looked like I was wearing a hacked wig. When I expresssed to her how unhappy I was with the wig-look of my cut/color she admitted the bangs were shorter "than she expected" and after a very long stressful discussion said she would put in some lowlights - in a couple of days. I work in an office and this was unacceptable to me. The next day (Sunday) they called and said they would fit me in - she barely changed the color and had to thin down and chop into my already thin hair so it wouldn't look so fake. Like I say she was very nice - but I looked like a wreck for weeks after.
Great Cut and Color for a Reasonable Price – I tend to wait too long in between cut and color so the hairdressers usually have to work. Andrew was up for the challenge. During the consultation he was honest about prices and gave me options so there was no shock at checkout time. I have a deceiving amount of hair so most hairdressers rush the cut. Not so with Andrew. He is extremely detail oriented. My long hair was thinned and layered in an innovative way that I haven't experienced at the hands of pricier stylists. The client he saw prior to me walked out with a head-turning bob which leads me to believe his talent with the scissors covers the hair spectrum. Best highlights and cut I've had in Brooklyn for the lowest price.
double-booked – I made an appointment, checked in, and waited for a half and hour. Finally, I decided to see what was taking so long. It turns out the stylist I had an appointment with didn't know I was waiting on her and was with another client. They were all very confused and unapologetic. I walked down the street to Woodley and Bunny, as a walk-in - stellar service and a great haircut!
Great Cut – I was nervous about trying out a new hairdresser because I've been getting my hair done by the same woman in Jersey since I was 10. But after moving to BK, I didn't want to make the trek anymore. Last night, I had an appointment with Rita and she was awesome. We talked about what I wanted, she listened, I brought in a picture of the style I wanted, and she delivered. I had a great experience, the people were very nice, and I'll be going back for my next cut...
Second Thought – I went to Mousey Brown's last week and was not happy with my cut - it was much shorter than I wanted. However, when the owner found out how unhappy I was, she made a point of contacting me to see if there was anything they could do to make the situation better. There wasn't (my hair is now too short to really do anything with), but it's only fair that I point out how accomodating they are at this salon and that they go out of their way to make their customers, even the disgruntled, cranky ones, happy.
Mousey Brown – Nice people. Cool place. Horrible stylist. I went in for a trim and the girl butchered my hair. I guess you get what you pay for. My hair looks disgusting thanks to her. I hate it and I don't recommend this salon.
I wish I was tacky enough to write his name here.
LOVED my haircut!! – Had a great experience at Mousey Browns: 1) The receptionist got me in same day on a Sunday and was very polite. 2) the stylist that cut my hair LISTENED to me, wow! 3) convenient location, cool music, nice people - all around awesome. 4) had a great cut. Best in 3 years. I even took a picture because it is how I want to look.
The only downside was the pricing system. I am a guy and often I feel OK paying $30 or $40 for a cut. But at Mousey they mixed me in with the ladies and I had to pay their price - $55. I love equality, but that seems steep for a guys wash and cut.
I loved my cut, but I am torn whether I will be back there anytime soon. I know mgmt reads these posts...hello. I would be there 12x a year if you just have a dude's rate. Do the math, at $40, that means more revenue for you!
Believe it or not, I am following the law in the state of New York.
Gender cannot affect pricing. So people that have shorter hair , that prefer to come a little more often to maintain it, do really help subsidize the people with longer or more labor intensive hair cuts. It's not fair. I have two ideas. The first is that I sometimes bend the rules on pricing for shorter cuts on SOME clients, based upon the amount of work performed. The second idea is to visit mousey brown when you need the expertise and attention to detail , or a big shape change, but go to Brooklyn General Barber on Bedford and N 9 th for the clean ups. A wash and cut is under $30. Tamir and Magda are awesome barber/stylists.
Awesome cut and color! – I went to Lacey for the first time in April for a cut and color and it still looks great! I thought the color she did was awesome, not chunky, and very well blended. I have blonde hair and like it to look natural with highlights, which is exactly what she did. My cut was amazing!!! I tried, very vaguely, to describe what I wanted and she did exactly that and more--even with my poor explanation. It is very rare for me to have a short hair cut that grows out well and it's been almost 3 months since my cut and it still looks great! I'm going to see Lacey again in 2 weeks. She's awesome and I saw some other cuts/colors by other stylists while I was there that also looked great. From someone who's REALLY picky, I would highly recommend this salon.
We love the challenge of consistently providing excellent work.
There are no slouches , or lazy-bones at Mousey Brown.
We all love love love doing hair really well. As a matter of fact,
we have been correcting mediocre color work and unskilled cuts
from the so-so and so-called "hip" salons around town for years now. We still prefer to take the lead with quality over coolness.
Really, just ok – I REALLY wanted to like this place, as I've been traveling for years to my old salon in jersey, and wanted to find a place i like close to home. I've been here twice, first got a cut with Lacey. It was a bit choppy and looked just ok. I came back to try her for highlights, since she got such great reviews. Again, just ok. The highlights are much too chunky, I specifically asked for them not to be; to be more subtle and just blend. Plus, she got closer to my head with some highlights, and not other. So some of the streaks have about a 1inch dark root! I was surprised, especially based on other reviews here. The staff here are nice though.
Mine does not. I understand that you are unhappy and want to vent; but going straight for the no-confidence vote with a bad review is kind of , well, wasteful. Why throw good money after bad, by going somewhere else and have it re-done and pay again ? There are 6 stylists at mousey brown , not including the owner. Cumulatively, thats about 80 years of professional experience. We each have our own style and technique. I probably answer a half dozen e-consults each week "guiding" clients to the "right" stylist. ESPECIALLY, if they have some issues or problem areas , or they don't REALLY know what they want . Some folks need color advise. Anyway, to ANY interested party. If you have a problem with, or are not happy with the result of any service we offer; please call the salon within 72 hours so that we CAN make you happy. There is very little that is permanent with hair. We have the talent and skills to make you really happy with your hair. But , golly jeez ; if you don't let us know...
