The Scene
A musty little gem housed in an old pharmacy on Williamsburg's main strip, Clovis Press is the anti-Barnes & Noble. You'll have to linger, because what you're searching for may not be easy to locate. But the fun is in finding what you weren't looking for amid the haphazard stacks of mostly used books (some of them on the floor).
The Goods
Clovis has a nice collection of zines, obscure magazines and books from radical political publishers like Autonomedia. The beat-up orange sofa isn't fancy, but it sure does look like a good spot to sit and stay a while. Clovis the dog might just curl up next to you.

If you are looking for a great independent book store, then this is the place. It features a wide selection of used books and titles from independent presses, including alternative periodicals. They also buy used books. The only weird thing is the organization of books. It's sometimes hard to find something specific. But, the staff is really helpful and can usually find what you're looking for if you can't do it yourself. It's a great place to just stop by and take a browse. You will find many surprising and interesting texts here that you wouldn't normally see in the bigger bookstores. PROS: staff is really helpful CONS:

The interior of this bookstore is Old-Fashioned as well as the exterior because the sign on the bookstore is being worn out. There was not a large selection of books that there should be at a bookstore, but I still found the book I needed with the help of one of the staff members.
