Terrible service, terrible pizza!
by mandm2
I ordered a medium and small pizza from their menupages menu. And when I went to pick it up they had a very large and medium size pizzas waiting on me, wanting to charge me over $36. I explained that I had only ordered a medium and small, which were cheaper on their online menu. They said that they offered no small size, only large and medium and personal (which the person I ordered with on the phone never mentioned, or corrected me on). They argued in front of me for a while and then eventually took a measly $2 off the bill! Although it was way too much pizza and cost way too much, I would have been happy if the pizza was actually good. It was not. It was extremely greasy and soggy and the meat smelled weird. I would NEVER go back to Carmines, nor would I recommend it to anyone. Here's a tip Carmine...a little bit of customer service goes a long way.
- Pros: none
- Cons: Terrible service, terrible pizza!

The portions at Carmine's are unbeatable at the price. Once thing that i really enjoyed is that the marinara sauce for the calamari was served at a perfect hot temperature. Speaking of the marinara, my dinner companion and I split the 'small' ($9) and it was tasty and not overly-breaded. We split a caesar salad ($3.25); small of course, but loved that the dresing was served on the side and was a fan of the shaved peccorino romano 'chips' on top. The chicken parmagiana ($7) features two huge chicken breasts over a good-sized portion of pasta. In my two visits to Carmine's, this has become my favorite item. The chicken was freshy and cheesy and again, served piping hot. The personal pizza ($7) was a bit of a letdown; huge, but the 'fresh mozarella' looked suspisciously like white american when singed. The basil and plum tomatoes were tasty, but overall i found the pizza a bit lacking.
The service was Fantastic. I can't stress enough how friendly and conversational our busy waitress was. She moved us to a larger table (at her suggestion) when she noticed how crammed-with-food our table was. And she welcomed our quizzing her about her accent, which turns out was Italian Williamsburg-Queens-Bensonhurst, but apparently a number of customers think is Southern(?)
Overall, I will probably return for my third visit next week .
