The Scene
It's the liveliest spot along Bay Ridge's thriving Third Avenue dining scene. Gussied-up Gen-Xers nosh on homemade potato chips and mingle to piped-in pop music in the bar's oversized booths. An elegant dining room, with flowing satin drapes, a flickering fireplace and dramatic ceilings frescoed with abstract aquatic art, is far more formal than the leafy outdoor patio.
The Food
The seafood-dominant fusion menu features standout starters, like super-fresh raw bar oysters, crispy citrus-pepperoncini calamari and flaky lobster-mushroom tart with fiery chorizo and caramelized onions. Pastas include shellfish-stocked linguine with tomato sauce, and an excellent homemade cheese ravioli--all are available in half portions. The best of the oversized entrees include supple roasted lobster and grilled filet mignon with incredible pancetta-scallion mashed potatoes; horseradish salmon sweet-tempered with apple hash; and Parmesan-basil lamb over creamy polenta. Finish with "Danny's Balls"--deep-fried, doughy spheres filled with melted chocolate.

We've had terrific meals here in the past so we had high expectations for a party we went to. The restaurant is nice and the staff excellent but everything from the Costco like rolls to the chicken skewers and mozzarella and calamari appetizers was bland. In fact the pepperoncini calamari I've had in the past was far superior to the bland marinara sauce they gave us. Entrees were equally disappointing, my sea bass was over cooked and the sauce devoid of taste, even the mashed potatoes were tasteless. Plating was bizarre, the tilapia was the color of cardboard and with the balsamic vinegar and red bean paste sauce it looked like ribbons on a package. No one finished their meal and the best thing was the occasion cake we brought in with us. What happened to this place, did they change owners?

The roof was leaking from an existing leak and in the morning of the Bridal Shower it was raining. When the guests from the Shower arrived the restaurant sent one of the workers to fix the roof. Instead of fixing the roof, his foot fell through the roof. It continued to rain in on the Shower for the entire time. Also, we were told Valet would be available, it was not available till after the Shower ended. Make sure you bring an umbrella to this Shower, you will surely need it.

Since I don't celebrate Christmas on Dec 25, I needed to go to a place that was open for Christmas. I chose the Pearl Room and I am very happy I did. It was a great experience. I been there a couple of times before but not on a holiday. The food had great presentation and the service was outstanding. The owner/Chef came up to my table and made me feel very welcomed (especially since I was dining alone) and was very sweet. I ordered the special menu for $55 and had the potato crusted salmon. I never had salmon prepared that way but I will definitely have it again. The dessert was different for me too. I had banana strudel for the first time with frangelico. Perfect combination to satisfy your sweet tooth. The owner gave me complimentary chocolate truffles. The pearl room really made my evening with the constant attention. I loved it! I will be back!
