Arirang best Japanese cuisine. exquisite dining, great food, love the location!
Awful Food. I thought the food was terrible. It really sucked. The main course was so salty that it was inedible, and the chicken was so dry. My date's food was the same. I went on the recommendation of a friend who goes to the one in Staten Island. I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone.
Im craving it as we speak!. I have been going to this place several times now and have never had a bad experience. Theres been minor things that can improve but overall I will continue to go here. The foods amazing, drinks are a lil overpriced but I guess thats why they are optional =) The only thing I dislike is the entertainers 0 to 60 attitude when you do not tip. The very first time I wasnt aware I was suppose to, I went I found this to be such a turn off to the restaurant. I also wish they seated couples with atleast a seat in between as it is quite annoying siting next to a family of 4 who has a child next to you. Other than that the atmosphere is great and the food, so I would say GO!
Very Unprofessional Hostess.
We had dinner lastnight at Arirang (4th Ave). When we arrived, I asked for a table for a party of 6. The hostess told me ""I will give you a table when everyone arrives."" This is totally understandable and acceptable. In less than 5 minutes, 2 more people arrived. I asked the hostess if we can sit down first and look at the menu. Before I get a chance to finish my sentence, she interrupted me by saying ""I will give you a table after the last person arrives."" Then, I told her, we can sit down first and take our time to go through the menu to order our entrees. In reply the hostess said, ""Do you know what that person (the person that have not arrived) wants?"" As a hostess you should never talk to your customer like that and in a tone with an attitude. We paid to get served in a restaurant, otherwise I could have stayed home.
I totally understand that in some restaurants you can not be sitted until everyone from your party arrives. The point I'm making with my trip to Arirang is the hostess is very unprofessional. I felt I get treated as an unvalued customer.
Mediocre food, bad management.
I used to be a frequent customer at the Staten Island branch, but my visits decreased dramatically over the past year or so. It used to be great there, but all the good waiters/waitresses seem to be disappearing. Now there's always a new face there doesn't know what they're doing at all. On top of that, they have a new manager, incompetent... completely incompetent.
The food was always mediocre, but I went there for the relaxed and fun atmosphere but now, the staff isn't enthusiastic, the managers are reluctant to help you solve any problems. They just throw you the typical "Oh, I'm sorry to hear you're dissatisfied, I'll make sure it doesn't happen again."
Ripped us off. The food was good, the chefs were entertaining, and the atmosphere was amusing for my birthday party - but when we got the bill, they completely ripped us off. They charged us for things that they had told us were included with our meals. When we talked to them about it they said it was because we had made slight variations (e.g., fried rice instead of steamed) when they had previously told us that we had the option of making those variations for the same price. They also stuck in some random charges that we couldn't even identify, but when we inquired about them, we couldn't understand a word the waiter said.
Ok. I've been there twice and have discovered that it depends on which chef you get. The more experienced chefs perform later on in the evening, so aim for those. Their cooking gags are a bit corny but I loved it. I went there to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and he throughly enjoyed it. They have a special birthday song that they play for you as well as a pretty birthday cake, if you order it. I thought that the food was a bit expensive though. However, it is enough food to make you full. Again, depending on the chef, your food might taste better or worse. The first time I went, it was at 7 and it wasn't that great. The second time I went at 9, the food was much better.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!. I love Arirang. I go there like once every two weeks. Their shrimp and fried rice are superb and totally the best!!!!!!!! Dont pay attention to the other reviews- all hibachi costs around there and the atmosphere is fine. The only thing you should watch out for is the chef you get. If you have one and like him alot, next time you come, ask for him. Also, if you go there for someone's birthday, they really are prepared. Its fun! Plus, we love how the menu has a picture of all the items so there are no surprises when your food comes. If you want some good food and arent afraid of a lil fun, go to Arirang.
Average food, slow service, a little pricey. From all the advertising, I really expected the place to be superb. It didn't exacly meet my expectations. the wait for our drinks, appetizers and food was very long, the food was mediocre, and it was a bit pricey. Well considering that it was hibacci, I guess it was ok $20 for regular shrimp, chicken, or steak hibbaci. I guess I expected the food to taste better. The chef was funny and definitely very entertaining. The atmosphere was so-so, nothing special. I'm not sure if I would reccomend this place.
We had a blast. I've been to Arirang's several times and i've always had a blast even though it's a little pricey. It's lots of fun to watch they chefs prepare your food, they put on a real show. It's well worth the money. They make the best fried rice i've ever had. and I had both the salmon and the steak and shrimp combo and both were terrific. It's great for a special occasion and you have the most fun with a large group.
