Extremely rude hostess-had to leave. We took our 84 year old mother in law for dinner there on a Saturday night. We made an 8pm reservation, arrived 10 minutes early and patiently stood waiting for 1/2 an hour. Finally, a table opened. Instead of seating us, they moved people from another table because they were uncomfortable! They said they would prepare their old table for us. My mother in law is a big woman and told them there was no way she could fit. She was told "you'll be fine"even though she'd have been wedged in by either a pole or the person behind her. No way could she have fit. I saw a table in the corner in the back and asked to be sat there. I was told "no way that's a table for 6 not 3. Just wait for another table to open". At 84, she just couldn't stand any longer. We've always enjoyed the food there,but the people they moved were obviously their buddies and we were treated extremely rudely.

Greatest Italian food in all of Brooklyn. I've been a La Palina customer for about 5 years now, I eat there at least once a week and I've always been impressed with the food and service, thats why I keep going back for more. It is a family run restaurant which is probably why its a great place for families to have lunch or dinner. All of the waiters and busboys are very nice and friendly and will help you WHENEVER you need it. I suggest you dine in La Palina for lunch or dinner you will not regret it, you will keep going back for more just like I do.

Brooklyn Surprise. I've been eating at Brooklyn's Italian restaurants for a long time but never heard of La Palina until recently. My wife and I gave it a shot and, boy, were we pleasantly surprised!! The food was excellent, the service, quite good and the place gave you ample space to stretch out. We started with baked clams and fried calamari. The baked clams were the best we've tasted outside of Don Pepe's and the calamari were tender and delicious. And they give you a big bowl of red sauce with it. You won't run out. My wife had the linguine with clam sauce and I had shrimp fra diavalo. I consider myself to be a maven on fra diavalo sauce and this was right up there with the best I've ever had. Nice and spicy, but just this side of too hot. The shrimp were ample and succulent. All of it on top of a mound of spaghetti and I was in heaven. The wife loved her dish as well. This is a friendly, comfortable place and we're sure to go back.

Viva La Palina!!. These reviews bring tears to my eyes. I last ate at La Palina when I visited Brooklyn and loved the food - as I did as a child when they were located near Navy Street, next to an elevated subway. My dad John was a doctor and the parents saw him.. We used to enter the old restaurant through the front dining room, pass through the kitchen, and to the rear dining room where we used to eat. I remember the osso bucco.

I'm looking forward to returning there this year to sample their great food again - espically the gnocchi.

They also had opened a resort/restaurant near Cornwall NY called La Palina which I had gone to in the 50's but I believe they closed years ago.

best family in the world Peter, Lisa, b i g w i l l i e 082003 at y a h o o .great cust. service. We miss u guys sooooooo much, and the food, fugeddabout it....Its been way too long, but enough is enough....Please drop mean email w/# so we could talk. Vegas sounds great rite about now. Kiss the angels 4 me. Pete, Lee not1 day has passed that u guys r not on our minds.......miss u guys.....luv ur cugiere B and N and 3 angels here........

A really nice family run Italian restaurant.. I have been going to La Palina's for most of my life. My mother grew up on Navy Street in Brooklyn and has known the family since they first went into the restaurant business.

What I like about La Palina's is that they cook authentic and delicious Southern Italian cuisine. If you don't like that style of Italian restaurant, pick another spot. The food is delicious and well cooked and the service is always reliable and friendly. We have also had many successful family parties there too. If you ask your waiter, they will serve appetizers and many of their entrees family style to a group.

I particularly like their seafood, fish, and veal entrees.

The quintessential Italian restaurant. My family has been dining at La Palina for around 35 years. Although we only go there once or twice a year, (due to our moving out of the area) we're always greeted as if we are regulars and experience great service. The waiters are friendly and have no problem accomodating requests, especially for children. The food is consistent and fresh. Every time we go somewhere else for Italian food, we wonder what we were thinking.

My favorites - mussels, clams, the pork chops with vinegar are outstanding, the seafood salad is amazing. Reservations are needed on the weekends.

One of the best Italina Restaurants in Good Ol' Brooklyn. La Palina has great home cooked style Italian food. Every dish is always fresh and tastes wonderful. Baked Clams, Mozzarella and Carozza to die for. The nightly specials are great too. There has not been one dish which I have ordered that I didn't like. I am Italian and consider myself a conesour of great Italian food. It's near home and never disappointing. Reservations are recommended. My family and I go there for our birthdays and I am always recommending it to friends. As a matter of fact I will be there again, before the week is up. The food servers are always on the ball. Great customer service. Thanks Guys.

Gnocchi in filet sauce is worth traveling for.. My heritage is a 50% Abruzzi and 50% Piedmonte-central and northern Italy. My wife is 100% Neopolitian. Her family cooking is a direct decentent from the La Palina Castelamare syle of rich Neopolitian cooking. I've been enjoying their meals since 1961. I have had a lifetime of wonderful Italian cuisine and am extremely grateful for it. I know a bit about what to expect from all things Italian. I really don't know where Fairandbalanced is coming from if not to just draw attention to themselves. Personally I don't think they have the slightest idea of what they are talking about; a bad vindictive review. I have been coming to a La Palina restaurant since I can remember and I have yet to get a bad meal. Their first huge restaurant was on Navy street where Kate Smith named the place after her La Palina cigar sponsor. The food then was just as it is now; terriffic and consistant. I've watched Anthony grow up along with a number of other life time waiters and never once have I seen theslightest hint of discourtesy. It's a family restaurant with a no nonsense Italian Brooklyn crowd. I agree with the bake clam reviewer. Still the best. Garguilo's and Fiorantino's give them a good run but La Palina takes it by a nose. As I said the gnocchi is memorable and the pasta with eggplant is awesome. I don't even like eggplant but this stuff is great. As a matter of fact, I can't find anything on the menu that isn't terriffic. Check it out, you'll see.

Best Baked Clams on the planet. I used to go to LaPalina's when I lived in Brooklyn and now do so everytime I visit my parents. Fairandbalanced is off his rocker. This restraunt has awesome food, great waiter service and I've never been rushed in the 100 or so times I've eaten there. Fairandbalanced must be a plant from another place nearby.
