Really great place. Upfront, honest,
explanatory, pro-active.
It's so hard to know when you're getting your car well-serviced or whether you're just being managed by a smart sales person who's mechanics are doing a lousy job. Michael seriously wants to please his customers. He fixed a brake issue my previous mechanic has loused up a number of times. And he said "your brakes are actually good - no need to change the pads - just the sensor failed". A less scrupulous guy would have said "Yeah, you need new pads". Which is I what I though I needed. So he saved me a ton, there and then. And without me asking he fixed a problem with the rear lights (some water had gotten in) and didn't charge.
There are VERY few good mechanics who are also scrupulously honest and nice guys.
Michael at L&M is one of them.
Cannot recommend this place enough.
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!. I Rate This Place With SIX STARS, they get the extra star for honest. First let me start off by saying Micheal and Bill are two of the most honest mechanics in the world and let's not forget my technician Gilbert who was hands on with my car. My car was giving me problems and I took it to a regular mechanic shop where they thought they knew what was wrong with my car but by the time they were done they only made the problem ten times worst. So I looked online and saw that people have wrote good reviews about this shop so I decided to give it a try. I swear to you Micheal took my car and within a hour he gave me a call and told me exactly what was wrong with my car. Even tho I am a woman he explained everything to me and showed me how everything work. He gave me a time frame in which my car should be finish and sure enough it was done right on time like he said it would. If you have a foreign car my advice to you would be to take it here, these guys are just as good as the dealers. I only drive BMW and if don't take my car to the dealer only L&M will touch my car, NOBODY ELSE!!
WONDERFUL SHOP! THANK YOU!
L&M Foreign Cars is a GDsend. I was referred to this place by a girlfriend who drives an audi and has been taking it them for 2 years. She assured me they also work on Volkswagen ( I was nervous about it because I always take my car to the dealership in manhattan).
My car decided it did not want to start last Tuesday after many years of faithful service. After having a nice conversation with Billy (the owner) on the phone , I had it towed in. An hour later I was there talking with Bill and his son Michael face to face.; I’m older women and really expected the worst when it comes to mechanics, I was stunned when they called me 4 hours later telling fixed. It was a simple part that cost $15.00 and my car was ready. They could have sold me the Brooklyn bridge . but instead explained to me in plain English that it was a bad relay which is a common problem with this model, and went on to give me a prioritized list of repairs. My total bill was $120 for diagnostics and $15 for the relay, no labor charge! Bill was very patient with me and even took the time to ride around the block with me to listen to a noise I had been hearing, and make sure it started up a few times, until I felt comfortable it was fixed. I will say that the ride out to Brooklyn is a schlep, but totally worth it! They paid for the taxi to the closest subway up the block and their service was great. You can tell your dealing with people who really do enjoy their job. Also they have the nicest and loveable dog named Cole. I have never once taken my car into a dealership without spending $600 this place is WORTH THE TRIP. This place is a GEM. Thank you guys for your honesty and incredible service, this was a helpful and informative experience. you have a customer for life.
Do not trust a thing the mechanics at L&M tell you. I have a 2004 VW Golf, and brought it to them 2 years ago because my EPC light kept coming on, making my engine go into "limp" mode. Unfortunately, the light was intermittent, and often came on only after driving for 30 minutes. They charged me at $115 diagnostic fee and then told me I had to return when the light was actually on for them to test it. I returned several times over the next two years, but they kept giving some reason to not diagnose the problem. They claimed it was likely the wiring harness or computer, both of which are very expensive to replace (up to $2000). Finally, when I brought it in a couple of months ago, they told me my car was UNFIX-ABLE and I should bring it to a junk car because it had no value. I knew this was completely untrue (my car has $6000 blue book value). Finally I took it to another mechanic, who replaced the sensor, charged me only $400, and now I have a working car again. These guys claim they are electrical experts, but obviously not. Sure, bring your car to them if you need an oil change, but not if you need them to use their brains and diagnose a problem. Also, they are VERY rude and condescending to women.
Best Bodyshop I have ever dealt with.
Brought my 2010 Audi S4 here recently for some minor body work. They were very upfront, honest and did an amazing job and had my car back to me very quickly. Best part is that they were less expensive by almost 50% from both the Audi dealership and the other shops I checked. Great father & son team.
The detailing job also made my car look better than when I bought it.
Cant recommend this place highly enough.
Foreign Automotive Knowledge at it's Best!!.
After having my 2003 Audi A8L break down right outside the Lincoln tunnel a reputable repair facility that specialized in working on Audi's was in line. L&M came up first shot on a google search for "Audi Repair Shop" near my georgraphic loation. Called up L&M and spoke to bill over the phone, he did a quick diagnostic on what's going on with the car so he can understand what occured prior to the break down. He then explained that he would be more than happy to work on the car and that he also personally own's a A8. Bill's own personal words before I left their shop that afternoon were "Don't worry, you will be happy you brought your car here"
My car was towed in and given a spot in their fenced in yard. He explained what the process was goign to be with the diagnostic for my car and showed me their diagnostic set up with the latest software and computers.
A free ride to the local train station was even offered once my vehicle was at their facility as their care for customers getting to where they have to go without their vehicle is even catered for.
He diagnosed my issues by the end of day and had the car running before the shop closed that night. A full explanation of what caused the break down was given.
I've been to a few stealerships and smaller automotive shops, but L&M takes service to another level. A professional team with experience and knowledge for a specialized group of cars.
Prices are fair compared to what you will pay at the dealership. The price they charge for their service will still beat any dealership price from my own personal experience.
I would recommend them hands down. There are very few talented and honest technicians/shops that still exist and L&M is one of the few.

Best alternative to the greedy dealers in the area!. I found L&M on Google after I got rear-ended and needed to find a place to fix up my Audi. I'll never go back to Audi Brooklyn again after a horrible service experience. Bill and his boys did an outstanding job but it took them a little longer than expected, which he explained was because of a previously undetected problem. I can't comment about their prices because the other party's insurance took care of it all. I would definitely recommend these guys if you own a German car and want an alternative to the incompetent blood sucking dealers in the city.
Disaster Averted. My BMW makes its home in Dutchess County but had a temper tantrum in Canarsie. Thankfully L&M knew how to handle the situation. Billy and Michael are too personable and professional to be believed! I'd drop by just to say hello. The service was impeccable, more than reasonably priced -- and, as important as these, fast: L&M should be a poster child for reasons why "I love NY." A great find and happy ending to an emergency auto repair. Disaster was averted -- and the car that 'limped' into L&M drove home to Dutchess.
Ghost in the Machine.
There's nothing quite as horrifying as tooling along at 70 in the fast lane during a downpour and having the wipers stop. The windshield is covered in water within two seconds and you're left fumbling for the emergency flashers while you decelerate and pull over.
The first time I brought my '97 528i to L&M, Bill told me he could fix my wiper problem, even though BMW told me they put four mechanics on it and couldn't. But when I went to demonstrate the wonky wipers, of course they worked just fine. Bill told me to come back when they broke again.
Well, I only drive the car on weekends, and it doesn't rain all that much so a couple of years have gone by. With the recent rains, I took the car in and spent almost a grand to get rid of this problem forever. Bill and his boys stand behind their work, and they're quite good at it.. There are enough testaments on Citisearch to prove that.
I was thinking of selling this car, but Mike told me it still has a lot of miles left to go so I think maybe I'll hold on to it for another 13 years. It's a great driver and, now that I feel I have a mechanic I can trust, I hate to let an otherwise good car go.
Thanks guys!
