What Our Expert Scouts Say

This place is my go-to spot for a haircut. Van Sickel a great place to get a solid cut at a reasonable price in NYC. The Staten Island stylists offer up a dose of real NYC too.

Charming Little Salon. I can't say enough nice things about Salon Van Sickel. The vibe here is completely relaxed and friendly and the service is excellent. There are only two chairs in the salon - My stylist is Mark (the owner) and he is a wonderful cutter/stylist/colorist - far better than many I've been to at higher priced "attitudey" salons in Manhattan. He also is a charming and witty host. The other employees are top notch too and very pleasant to deal with. The shop is petite and pretty and filled and with plants. If you live in Brooklyn you should definitely give them a try. If you live in Manhattan, remember, no need for a passport. Beautiful Brooklyn Heights is just over the bridge!

An antidote to pretentious Manhattan salons. It is easy to feel immediately at home at Van Sickel. You feel like you have stepped into someone's living room and are surrounded by beautiful green plants and lots of natural light. The service is friendly and professional from the start. I knew that the stylist was really listening to what I wanted, and he also gave me several different options, explaining honestly what would be realistic to expect from what I was requesting. The atmosphere is calming and relaxing, and I got a great cut for less than I would have to pay for a so-so cut across the bridge. I am so glad to have finally found this gem in my neighborhood.

Cute and Private in Historic Brooklyn Heights. This small salon sits quietly on a tree lined residential street in the north heights. It's ambience and attitude (or lack of) is immediately calming and inviting. The staff is both professional and courteous, without the usual dose of pretension found in so many NY salons. It is just a great neighborhood jewel filled with friends, family and neighbors.

They are strictly hair at Salon Van Sickel specializing in cuts and color of all types. Don't expect a pedicure, bikini wax or special massage in the basement - - there are plenty of other places to go for that sort of treatment. But, if you are looking for a great color and cut, at a reasonable price, you should give them a try. They are open six days a week and closed on Sundays.
