Brooklyn >Food & Dining > Gandhi Palace
“Although the prices are kind of high for lunch the atmosphere is nice.”
“We thought the food was delicious and reasonably-priced, our server was very attentive and sweet-mannered, we had a window table, and it was quiet.”
“This is a good place to ease newbies into westernized Indian.”
“So: This is a terrific little place with great atmosphere and the sweetest waiters.”
“Great food, though a bit pricey”
“In all cases, service is slow but it's not the waiters fault”
I remember when this store was called Amin, ever since they remodeled
everything got worse. The menu prices are thee times what they were.
I saw rats crawling around me I was grossed out and left never go back.
Roach dinner!. Iam a restaurant buff who likes to try different places, this didn't do it for me. I found a roach in my soup never eat here again, all heights residents tell me to eat in Curry Heights instead.
more roach traffic then foot traffic in this res. I ate in this restaurant and saw that there is more roaches roaming around then customers. I don't know how this establishment stays open, a roach crawled on my table and another one under my table as well. I was lucky me and my friend were able to drink our coffees but didn't touch our soups the last time we ate there which was over the summer never set foot in there again.
AGGRESSIVE ROACHES/OVERBEARING WAITERS/POOR TACT.
Dark and dirty, this place feels like a david lynch film.
My girlfriend says I'm too cynical and reserved and I should try new things, so Indian food it is!!
Big mistake!!!!! Waiters are grimy and pushy, trying to make sure that we order the bigger bottles of beer and try enough expensive food. The waiter leaves and returns with an appetizer when it finally happens... roach springs out of nowhere, races around the table and into the bread basket.
I get the waiters attention and with the speed of Vishnu himself, he grabs it with his bare hands and recommends that we move to the window table. I tell him that we're goin to leave and that I'll pay him for the beer. He leans in and very rationally says " But sir, I already killed it". Another waiter joins in and reminds me about the window table again, where I warn them "Don't make me cause a scene, let me pay you for the beer and we'll be on our way".
And yes they accepted payment!!!!
Salty Salty food + cockroach + creepiness of waiter.
The food here is terrible. Everything we tried was over-salted. Some things were overcooked and dry. Others were overcooked and falling apart. The yogurt/chickpea appetizer didn't taste fresh. None of the food we had was properly spiced, so much of it lacked in flavor. I will try to remember my experience, so as never to come back here. One of the worst restaurant experiences of the last year for us.
On top of it, the waiter was disrespectful and kept coming on to my wife (yes, seriously). We couldn't wait to leave. (Also, they accept credit cards, but ask you to pay in cash. Not a big deal, but strange, and I think people should know about it before coming here.)
Oh did I mention the cherry on top -- when we finished our meal, a cockroach crawled across our table just as the plates were getting cleared away.
felt like coming out of a snake pit. Lets face some reality the only reason this place is still open is because when it comes to indian food theres nobody else around the others closed up due to high rents or not enough foot traffic. This res stinks they didnt serve me right. I had misunderstandings with waiters once before, when i went to the ladies room and came back my food was was gone and table cleared. I was only haif done whats wrong with these people found my check on the table and asked the server why are you in a hurry to get me to leave the place? I believe in giving a res 3 chances before i stop going this is the third and last time these people have done enough and on top of it the res is dirty saw a couple of rats crawl out of the kitchen.
very filthy place. Its unfortunate to see a place like this where the wait staff sits you down but yet the table is still dirty and their is garbage underneath the table. It also smells missed the other two indian res that were on atlantic ave but the rents must have gotton high because they are not there anymore and we are stuck with this rat hole of a place this is not a way to run a business get professional help mr owner.
real hell hole. I could not eat in this place again. some of the staff were rude and body odor problems. I believe some of the reviewers when they said the place was dirty. I saw roaches crawling under my chair. I saw the waiter blowing his nose in front of me while i was eating. I was served coffee and the top of my cup had some dirt on it. I hope the health dept comes for these peope because they are really out there it surprised me that they stayed open this long on Montague street!
health hazzard. what can i say when me and my wife were seated we realized the table was dirty. there was a tissue that someone used to blow his nose with. there was an insect under the table and the waiter who asked to take our order smelled himself. the staff mops while people are eating thats a no no we got up and went to traviata instead.
this place is nasty!. had a bad feeling when I entered and found the waiter sneezing over a table, but then the couple next to me left when they saw a large crawling insect, and i looked around and the place is nasty. when i told management i was going because the place was unsanitary, his response was "all restaurants in new york are dirty". this place really does deserve to go out of business. wish i checked reviews before going.
