Flowers and fairy lights are appealing, but it's the honest-to-God knockout location at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge that guarantees the River Cafe its romantic reputation. Banquette seating means every chair has a view of the surprisingly magical East River. The capper: Service that is a divine mix of attentive and unobtrusive. As for the food, the restaurant has far better cooking than it needs to. Chef Brad Steelman is the latest in a noble line that includes David Burke, Larry Forgione, Charlie Palmer and most recently, Rick Laakkonen, all of whom had the luxury of working with the best ingredients obtainable, and working with a staff trained to the nth degree by legendary owner.

Unlike other upscale restaurants, the River Cafe has mastered creativity with taste. The food was so delicious that even if they served it in paper plates I would stiil go back. The presentation was exquisite of course but the taste was unbelievable. The service was human. That is with a smile and pleasant conversation. No stiff uppity waiters. And of course the ambiance, the view the comfortable environment.....unbeatable.
