21 Club

Once a glamorous speakeasy, now one of the most celebrated restaurants

  • 3-course prix fixe lunch, $35
  • 3-course prix fixe dinner, $40
  • Grand-Award winning wine list

The heart of '21' is the legendary Bar Room: the watering hole of celebrities, captains of industry, and world leaders (almost every U.S. President since FDR has eaten at '21' with the lone exception of George W. Bush). The décor sets the stage for revelry here, which has been seen on-screen more than any other NYC eatery. As Alex Ward of The New York Times described it, "the décor is pure fun, the service first-rate..."

The well-reviewed American fare is deftly executed and the tasting menu, with or without wine-pairings, is a true value.

Editorial Review for 21 Club – by Citysearch Editors

The Scene
A clubby lair for corporate kings and media celebs, this expensive former speakeasy hasn't been altered since the La Guardia administration--oak bar, red-leather banquettes, neighborly tables and a curious collection of model trucks and airplanes dangling overhead. Old-school waiters in crisp white jackets anticipate every need, as does the unpretentious sommelier who oversees one of the city's great wine cellars.

The Food
Some of the most popular dishes have been on the menu forever, such as the exceptional Caesar salad, steak tartare and bouillabaisse. You won't find a better grilled Dover sole anywhere, and game (get the mixed grill) and layered, lusty sauces are other house specialties. The kitchen also tackles more au courant fare: Go with the black sea bass with truffled potatoes and the lavender-and-honey brushed roasted duck.

Insider Tips

Look Good

Ask a captain to arrange a tour of the Prohibition-era wine cellar. Inside are priceless bottles of French wines tagged with names like Richard Nixon, Ivan Boesky and Burgess Meredith.

Where to Sit

In the newer part of the wine cellar is a magnificent private dining room with a table for 20.

Prix Fixe Menus

The pre-theater menu is a bargain: The $40 three-course dinner is available from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. A $35 lunch menu is also available.

I gotta say the 21Club is one of my favorite restaurants. I get the Marinated Octopus Salad , and really, it cannot be beat. I did go here recently and they have changed the name of some things and they too my favorite wine off the list :( but the salad is still as good. It is dimly lit so it would make a nice place to go on a date. I would recommend to anyone..

Pros: service,ambiance

The best restaurant experience i have ever had. I definitely recommend it. I took my husband there for his bday. we had great service. Although it is a very expensive place it is worth the price.

Pros: everything

Cons: nothing
