Diverse and Delicious Mexican/Latin/American Food. YUM!.
Hands down, La Flor Del Paraiso is my favorite restaurant in Boerum Hill/Cobble Hill, and they serve up the best Mexican food I've eaten in Brooklyn. Sometimes while I'm eating here I like to imagine that if I had to choose my last meal on earth, I'd want it to be the vegetarian tostadas at La Flor. I don't know what they saute the vegetables in, but it's freaking amazing.
I eat here about once a week and I never get tired of the extremely diverse (and gigantic) menu of Latin American, American, and Tex Mex food. This is a perfect place to go if you need to appeal to a wide range of tastes and dietary restrictions. They have just about everything from mofongo, enchiladas, and burritos, to buffalo wings, pasta, and sandwiches, to a wide variety of vegetarian entrees and salads.
One might question how a menu this broad could be so consistently great, but I've never known anyone to be disappointed in their meal. I especially love the veggie tostadas (obviously), the sizzling veggie fajitas, and the avocado salad with spicy honey chipotle dressing. My meat eating friends like the chicken entrees and shrimp fajitas.
The bar and restaurant itself has a slightly sporty "upscale casual" vibe to it (think cloth napkins, dark wood, and flat screen TVs). The motif is fairly generic, but what its decor lacks in individuality, La Flor makes up in its uniquely flavorful food and extremely welcoming and unpretentious staff.
La Flor is versatile: a great place to eat dinner before a performance at BAM, and equally good if you just want to grab beers with friends and watch the game. There is a sizable back room which would make for a great party space, too. You could easily host a party of 15 with room to spare.
