While I enjoy eating their pastrami, I tend to go for their smoked turkey sandwich. Piled high with tender juicy meat and topped with pickle
BLAH – Big disappointment. This is a small place so be prepared to wait an hour or more for a table for dinner but the food is not worth the wait. Deli can be comfort food but this was not. I had the matzo ball soup, a salty dishwater with odd seasoning and a boring firm matzo ball. The chopped liver was OK but just OK. The fried green tomato was OK but not for the wait. We also had a duck prosciutto which was odd. The main course was the brisket. Two big plates of meat. One was moist while the other was dry. Again, the odd seasoning was unpleasant. This is a "Deli" for people that don't know Deli. I will not go back.
Citysearch Editorial Review – Katz's, the legendary Lower East Side deli, is old-school, surly and frozen in time. This Brooklyn deli is the hip, friendly, new kid on the block, yet the two share one definitive trait: the best pastrami sandwich in New York (depending on who you ask). At Mile End, which is patterned after the Jewish delis of Montreal, the pastrami is called "smoked meat" and comes piled high on rye, like at a traditional New York deli, though this pastrami is dryer, more garlicky, and comes from local, hormone-free cows. Everything is smoked in-house, meaning there isn't much room for a dining area, and the counter and communal tables are packed at all but the most off-peak hours with Boerum Hill regulars and deli worshipers on a pilgrimage.
