Fans of fashionable Noho spot Mercat should be pleased with its sister establishment in Williamsburg. The menu is similar (small plates inspired by Catalan cuisine) and the decor, with its high ceilings, exposed brick and white subway tile, gives off a similar sexy, sophisticated vibe. The prices here skew a bit cheaper than in Noho, perhaps a nod to the lower salary of your average Brooklyn creative type, but the food still impresses: tender mussels topped with sofrito and shoestring potatoes, a crumbly duck burger with pecorino and, for dessert, a plate of chewy homemade churros encircling a cup of melted chocolate.
