An airy beer tavern pouring affordable microbrews..
Prospect Heights’ Washington Avenue gets a bit boozier with this sparse, roomy watering hole styled with vintage mirrors, bare brick and enough tables to squeeze in every neighborhood newcomer. Commons’ selling point is beer, with 16 taps serving suds that range from local microbrews (Captain Lawrence, Sixpoint) to German and Belgian imports like strong, amber Kwak. The mixed drinks are ample and affordable, if uninventive, but the bar’s best attribute is its raw, spacious backyard. On rainy days, sit behind the wide front windows and watch the world slither past.
