“Its the only mediocre bar in the area.”
Tandem is one of those places I end up at after I said I was going to go home two hours ago. The tiny back room is a fun dancefloor for a young, hip crowd that just wants to sweat and dance, and the front room is great for drinking, mingling and brunch.
be on your guard. Its a seedy bar located across Knickerbocker adjacent from the Hernandez park. The employees have a smug attitude and will double charge you at any given chance. I have tried this place three times and on each occasion it was horrible. My girlfriends purse was stolen there and the management & staff had little to no concern. I personally set my iPhone down for two minutes only to discover it had disappeared. When I arrived home I was able to locate the device for the next three days......it hadn't moved. My iPhone was still there. Management offered nothing in help, I was completely surprised and distraught. Needless to say I will never go back and if you do, be on your guard. There are a lot of drugs going on in the back. Not the easy stuff either.
Perfect bar, excellent food.
My friends and I recently visited Tandem for brunch, and we were blown away by the whole experience. The 6 of us all ordered different dishes, and everything we had was excellent. Also, I had two of the best cocktails I've ever had in New York for a fraction of the price that I've paid at other bars. The staff was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgable. The atmosphere was hip, and the crowd was attractive twenty and thirty somethings. It's the perfect bar. I can't recommend this place highly enough!
TL;DR - Perfect bar, excellent food
excellent fennel sausage, delicious pancakes. Our waiter was funny and sweet and the food was delicious and affordable. The pancakes were griddled to perfection (real maple syrup), the sausage was outstanding, the kale perfectly prepared, the grits very tasty. Whoever wrote the angry review was clearly just a case of sour grapes, probably over being fired (who'd want that attitude working for you?). While I've never worked there and don't know the owners, staff or management, I'd give it a solid thumbs up for excellent service, great decor and great food.
Worst place ever Tandem Bar.
Horrible place to go, please stay away... far far away. Its the only mediocre bar in the area. The entire place is low quality, they dilute the liquor. Trust me I used to work there. My other coworkers would intentionally throw people out for no reason... total power trips. Please remember you still work in Bushwick.. come on
If you go, remember to wear the hipster uniform
Small plates and stiff drinks in a funky Brooklyn space.. Jane Virga made all of the gorgeous ceramic tabletops and wall art at the bar/small plates restaurant she owns with her sister Cathy. Funky details like a vintage cash register, old foldable stadium seats and a gorgeous mahogany bar from an Elks Lodge in Queens (where Ella Fitzgerald supposedly drank) create a funky-yet-homey vibe that also extends to the menu, with dishes like grass-fed beef meatballs and homemade mac and cheese with market greens. The neighborhood’s artsy locals crowd the bar for specialty cocktails, draft beers and a substantial list of red and white wines available by the bottle or glass.
