Red Hook gets an artsy cafe from a former Pegu Club alum..
Writer and former Pegu Club bartender St. John Frizell is the man behind this eclectic cafe/bar in Red Hook, which has, unsurprisingly, become a popular spot for writers looking to pump out pages. The understated space is decorated simply with a brass chandelier and vintage posters in Spanish, while the menu is similarly low key. The quiet cafe offers oversized mugs of Counter Culture coffee and serves light bites throughout the day: Breakfast items include egg sandwiches and croissants from Colson Patisserie, while lunch features sandwiches like a tasty banh mi. Dinner is mostly comprised of snacks meant to accompany drinks (think a variety of meats, cheeses and olives).
