Though it calls itself a "speakeasy," this Bed-Stuy stunner is easy to find: Look for the bumblebee-yellow building, behind which awaits a split-level space. The upstairs dining room is all bare brick, flickering candles and lazily rotating ceiling fans (and a 1920s stove serving as a hostess stand!), while the downstairs lounge reserves its wall space for works by local Pratt students. The full liquor license remains under wraps, but there's plenty of beer (mmm…Blue Moon) and wine by the glass to keep the easygoing mix of locals, both young and old, well lubricated.
Great Food Bad Crowd

I came in with a friend because we were looking for some place to eat. The food was very delicious and the atmosphere was very cozy. the only thing that could hold this place back is not putting a limit on drinks. I witnessed a gentleman (who I assume is from the neighborhood) who was clearly drunk walking around the restaurant and outside the restaurant. They didn't remove him but instead kept serving him something in a coffee cup. I love this place and it may be my regular go to spot but I would have to keep a eye out on what time I go.
- Pros: The Staff is really helpful and friendly
- Cons: The neighborhood
Cozy and Chill

Bed Stuy has long needed a place to eat besides chinese takeout and Sarah James is such an exciting addition to the neighborhood. I've lived in Brooklyn for three years and was pretty hesitant when I heard that a new place opened up in my neck of the woods. When my roommates and I went to check it out the place was already closed but the owner let us in for one drink anyway. That 'one drink' turned into three and we drank and chit chatted the night away. The owners gave us a tour of the downstairs (soon to be a swanky area with bar, cozy fabric covered chairs, tables, and a VIP section with its own entrance) and told us the story of how Sarah James came to be. I enjoyed myself very much and plan to make it a regular place I go for dinner and drinks. Thank you so much for opening up a worthy place for our neighborhood!
- Pros: Friendly owners, chill atmosphere, and delicious food.
- Cons: None that I can see
