The Brooklyn hipster gourmet movement may have reached its apex with this multi-purpose temple to cool foods in Carroll Gardens, from the guys behind the Frankie's Spuntino restaurants. An excruciatingly old-timey space consisting of a tap room, a restaurant and a small retail area (where you can buy the ostentatiously local sundries and meats) features ancient wood furniture, antique punch bowls and chandeliers. The food also reaches for an old-time simplicity; one of the owners describes the effort as trying to recreate the food of the mid-nineteenth century. Between the menu, the cocktails…
Um, really?!

I have been to Prime Meats about 5-6 times and always brought approx 4-6 people with me each time. I live in Carroll Gardens and want to support local business as much as I can. That said the other times I have gone were not Sunday brunch, but actually odd eating times, so have not had such a problem eating/being sat. But my last experience will be my last because it was just so retarded. I came in to eat with 5 people and was informed that the wait would be 30-45 min. No problem. We stood at the bar and had our drinks to wait for our table. There was a 5 top right next to the door and had two people in it eating their brunch who finished about 20 minutes after we arrived. The hostess then sat two 2 tops there while we still waited at the bar. Please keep in mind this place is tiny. Over the next hour and 20 min of waiting I counted five 2 tops that opened up and were sat, their only other 5 top was still seating and ordered another round of drinks. I understand all that, but why would a hostess knowing she had only two 5 tops seat deuces at one of them leaving a 5 people waiting at the bar for 35 minutes OVER the 45 min wait time. Oh, and when they finally were trying to get the two people out of the booth, the check was dropped leisurely and sat with the credit cards to be ran in payment for another 15 minutes!! Then the hostess came back to us 4 times to tell us why were wrong in being annoyed by the wait. No manager came to sort it out or apologize even though I saw them sitting out front hanging out. Pluses are that the food is good, but the place is tiny. Don't try and bring more than 2 people there if its normal eating hours or god forbid brunch. They made sure to loose my business.
- Pros: Nice Space
- Cons: Too Small, Hostess with timing issues...
everything was great... except the service

had early week lunch at prime meats. it was my first time there. a friend had told me to stop by for a steak and a cocktail. steak was tasty, not gonna lie. but there was one server doing everything from coffee to bussing and the place was really busy. he barely came over to the table at all. basically, he was completely disgusting looking like he'd just gotten out of bed and smelled so strong of beer or bourbon or something that my girlfriend had to go to the bathroom more than once to get away from it. we had to flag the guy down to get our check and saw him drinking a few times at the bar. not sure if that's what this place is all about or whatever but i'm over it. a friend of mine writes restaurant reviews and went in later in the week and said the same thing. we probably won't be back.
- Pros: addictive food, nice vibe
- Cons: is this server ok?
