Owner Paul Degruccio can still point out the divots in his café’s old wooden floor, made by his grandparents as they stood near the cash register of the Italian-American grocery store they opened in 1935. It's great to have second stop in the neighborhood - finally someplace to get pie/cakes/cookies/muffins. The walnut cake is moist and delicious, and the glazed blueberry muffin is perfect: tender muffin with crispy lemon glaze on top - yum. I prefer Gimmee's coffee (sorry, Stumptown fans), but the coffee here is still quite good.
The only drag is that unless you get there when they open, you will always have to take your order to go because every inch of table space is occupied by some joker with their laptop, camping out all day and using the place as their office. WiFi etiquette, anyone?

The Extras:
The cafe has free Wi-Fi, but limits you from plugging in your laptop on weekends when the constant crowds don't allow for hours of idle Web surfing.
Know Before You Go:
Looking for the bathroom? Push on the old Coca-Cola machine in the back near the bagel display to gain entry to the quirky restroom, complete with a hilarious cut-out of a peeping Tom in the faux-window.

Paul Degruccio's cousin, Rosemary Mangione, is part-owner and wife of famed "Feels So Good" musician Chuck Mangione.
