It's hard to go wrong with the classics, and owners Dylan Dodd, who also runs Barrio Chino, and Danny Minch, a former bartender at Balthazar, are betting that Williamsburg's trendy young things will want to kick it old school. Used to be awesome. Used to be... As of July 2009 the ownership and the chef have changed, sadly for the worst. I frequented Walter Foods regularly after they opened. The food and service was always on point.
The food has dramatically changed, our courses took phenomenally long to arrive (in an uncrowded restaurant) and we were served bad oysters (I believe from Hood Point) after I asked if they were fresh.
Save your money and avoid it for the dismal experience it has become.

Walter Foods is a welcome though somewhat mediocre addition to the neighborhood. I?ve been three times and will likely continue to patronize the place, but probably only on slow week nights. I?ll repeat what others have said before ? the turn over is SLOW. The best part about the place is the friendly staff that seems genuinely apologetic for the extraordinarily long wait for a table. I?m not opposed to waiting when I know there is something to be gained from it, but I find the food to be nothing special compared to some of the local competition.

I was so blown away when I went there a few weeks ago. Everything on the menu was absolutely divine. Justin Ernsberger has really done a fantastic job with every entree he presents. The surf and turf is so flavorful, and cooked so perfectly, it just melts in your mouth. The interior is also very cozy, and inviting, especially on these cold winter nights. The dark black wood finish, contrasts with the clean white napkins and dinner plates. The servers are very helpful and seem like they enjoy their job. I highly, highly recommend this restaurant. Some comparable places are schillers, pearl oyster bar, and dumont.
