Greenpoint goes upscale with this spacious, minimalist lounge carved from a bygone warehouse. – In Short
Though there's no shortage of northern Brooklyn boozitoriums, the classy-joint quotient was woefully low before the arrival of this minimalist lounge. The 2,500-square-foot space--featuring a roll-up garage door--contains Ikea-esque furniture, concrete floors and recessed flat-screen TVs that broadcast art installations and ancient movies rather than athletics events. Still, drinking's a sport at this airy corner spot filled with neighborhood folks: Sample 12 drafts (including local Brooklyn brews), a bucket of "crap beers" (including Schlitz and PBR) and rare liquors like herbaceous chartreuse and (finally legalized) absinthe.
Hits: You'll savor a sleek counterpoint to Greenpoint's dark, divey bar scene while sucking down tasty microbrews and hard-to-find spirits.
Misses: The antiseptically clean room can feel a bit like drinking inside a Swedish-furniture showroom, and without tons of people, the cavernous space may feel a bit lonely, even oppressive.
