In Short – With a plush banquette area punctuated by couples' nooks and hollowed, ice-filled tables, this former synagogue makes for one classy drinking spot. The religious motif is preserved with back-lit, goddess-themed, stained glass wall-hangings and illuminated Jesus sculptures, but the imagery remains more plucky than disrespectful. Deity's drink menu is as ambitious as its design--40 beers, 400 wines and dozens of specialty cocktails, some identified only by their ingredients. Local Brooklynites may scoff at the Manhattan-high prices (around $14), but a daily happy hour alleviates…
Higher Drink Prices for BLKs
by mmmmmmmmmmmm
I went to diety and had a horrible experience. I order the same drink from 3 diff bartenders and paid 3 different prices. When I asked about it, they told me that $3 in gratituty was added to my bill, even if I ordered only 1 drink. I told him it was illegal to do that to groups smaller than 5.
Depending on who you are, the bartender decides whether or not to raise the price. I guess it’s their own form of gentrification. There’s lots of better bars in Brooklyn that value and respect their customers
I'd give it a 5 on a scale from 1 to 10

First time to this place. It was ok. It is true, the outside does look like a synagogue but thats because it used to be a synagogue....hence the name. It was not a very diversified crowd and the music was all hip hop and reggae...but the people at the door were great, the bartenders were great and the patrons all were very friendly. Maybe would go again....but wouldnt say that i'd never go again.
- Pros: Very relaxed atmosphere
- Cons: DJ didnt really mix up different types of music.
Totally did not to expect to have that much dang fun!

Right now its 4am on a Sunday morning. And I just returned from this place. OMFG I love this place. I spent the first hour or so in the up stairs, chill, sheik bar area. Which they are right would be considered very romantic. They had a god drink special. But omg down stairs the BEST 2 DJs on the set. and me and my 2 friends could not stop dancing, my short sleeve sweater dress is proudly soaked. I smell like sweat. and proud of it. WE are going back next Saturday for sure.
- Pros: Ambience, conveniently located, music
- Cons: there is no sign saying the name of the place. I passedit like 2wice. Causeit looks like a synagogue.
The Details on Deity
What to Drink:
Inventive concoctions like the honey, lemon and rum cocktail are probably great for a cold, but simpler choices like the passion fruit lime margarita tend to work better.
Save Money:
No credit card minimum means no having to force extra shots down your gullet at last call, and happy hour means 20 percent off all drinks until 9pm daily.
Fun Fact:
The owner's brother, a local contractor, hand-poured the signature hexagonal bar out of the same dyed concrete used on the floors. It's filled with white aggregate stones that he revealed by smoothing the surface with a diamond grinder.
The Extras:
Regular weekly events include the Sunday night Gypsy party when a DJ spins to mostly gay and lesbian revelers, though--as always--everyone is welcome.
