In Short
This Fort Greene hideaway mixes Prohibition-era inspiration, neighborhood charm and lofty aspiration. Surrounded by gold drapery and a hand-painted ceiling of vines and flowers, locals perch at tables and at the long bar. The menu from "Top Chef" contestant Josie Malave offers a mix of American classics, including chicken soup, mac and cheese and a $22 rib-eye. But international ingredients assert their dominion, too: Mussels bathe in a coconut curry broth, and poached miso salmon snuggles with wasabi mashed potatoes.

Since we live only a few blocks away my boyfriend and I decided to check out Speakeasy for brunch. We ordered eggs... poached. After waiting about a half hour (and watching people who ordered food after us get their food) our waiter said not to worry our food would be out very soon. Twenty minutes later we were still waiting. We asked our very nice waiter where our food was and he apologized saying that it takes a long time to poach an egg. I've poached eggs at home before and it shouldn't take anymore than ten minutes at the very most. We waited another ten minutes before telling our waiter we were going to leave. They comped the two rounds of mimosas but by that time we were both STARVING and had to go find food elsewhere. If they have someone in the kitchen that can't poach an egg ... i don't want to try eating anything else they're serving.

I also had the same problem with the mussels. The beard was still on and the mussels were totally off. I complained to the waitress and after smelling them she agreed they were bad.She asked if I wanted some thing else and I ordered the crab cake ,just because I wanted to give them another chance. The it was small ,burned and had shells in it ....I was so upset . I asked for my check and they still charged for the crabcake even though I only to one small bite .I told them ....yes told them to take it off or There would be trouble. Do not go to this place ......they should take there chef out back and shout him.

I finally went to Speakeasy last night. Inexcusable that it took me so long, considering that I live about 5 steps away. It was DELICIOUS! I had the short ribs and they were so good that I made myself pack up 1/2 of it for lunch because I figured anything that delicious must be very fattening. :) My bf had the lamb and it was also very good. I don't even like lamb and I thought it was pretty awesome. We had the calamari for an appetizer which was a little on the chewy side...but we still ate the entire dish. I guess that if I have to complain about something...I would say that it should be a bit cheaper considering that it is in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. My delicious watermelon tequila drink was $9...which seemed a bit steep...but whatever...it was great that we had GREAT food...and I'd rather overpay for delicious food then overpay for bad food. Right!?! Please go to this restaurant and support Clinton Hill!
