What People Are Saying About Trivia Renovations
worst contractor
by pissed off homeowner at Citysearch
I hired this contactor to completely renovate my 1 bedroom co-op. They talked a good game, appeared sincere and sounded like they knew what they were doing, man was I completely misled. Demolition of the entire place was no problem, an idiot can rip out floors and walls. The entire apartment was gutted, so they started with a clean slate. As a naive first time home buyer, they convinced me that construction permits were not necessary and told me they NEVER obtain them. When I had a complaint filed against the construction, I had to stop everything and get the required permits. Once I got these permits, construction continued.
Thank God we watched them, as we caught so many basic mistakes, but we couldn't stay with them all day. We discovered they drove home every day to eat lunch, which wasted so much time. When they installed our new Anderson windows, some of them were installed incorrectly, preventing them from being able to be locked and none of the window sills were the same height and/or level. We purchased very expensive Brazilian Teak hardwood floors. They started to install it without leveling the floor. We had to force them to level the floor at an extra cost. They subbed out the sanding and polyurethane treatment of the floors and didn't ensure it was done correct, as they treated the new floors right over dirt and debris. They installed the wiring to our new Miele appliances in an unsafe manner and refused to correct the mistakes. So many other imperfections and mistakes were discovered. The worst by far is the sloppy, crooked and improper installation of the entire bathroom slate tile. They saved the bathroom for last and in their haste, they created an uncorrectable disaster. If they only told me that they didn't know how to install mosaic tiles, I would have been ok with that and had someone else do it...it's too late now.
After 4.5 months, several missed deadlines and when I was fed up with all of the mistakes, I fired them and told them to take their tools and get out. They mismanaged the job from the beginning and claimed to know much more than they actually did. I had to hire another contractor and an electrician to correct their mistakes. I would actually give them "no stars". Potential customers....BEWARE!
