Wilder, baby-faced revelers may skip this cozy pub, which boasts speakeasy charm and whose many fixtures last saw action pre-1940s. But old-timers from the neighborhood, drawn by the dirt-cheap Bud Lights, easily mix with the newbies to the block. Fortunately, there's seating for all, whether at the bar, tables, booths or on the patio. The diverse beer menu vies for attention with a wine list and a revolving cast of cocktails, any of which may be paired with a limited selection of grub to quell the pangs of hungry drinkers. – – Hits: Amply sized booths enclose drinkers with…

Too Rude

by olsklgpt

We went there a few months ago for drinks with friends and were unimpressed by the service. However, it was a cozy space (especially the booths), so my girlfriend and I decided to try it again for dinner.

Unfortunately, we never got around to doing so. We walked in and were surprised to find that it was almost empty (a bad sign in itself at 8:00 on a Saturday night). We thought that it would be ok if we took one of the booths - which is sort of the point at Black Rabbit - even though it had a card on it that said that it was reserved for parties of three or more after 9:00 on Friday and Saturday.

Apparently it wasn't ok. Before we could even sit down, a waiter appeared and told us that we could sit there, but would have to move at 9:00. I thought he was kidding and asked what if we were still eating dinner then? We were told that wouldn't matter, we'd have to move at 9:00. Once again, note that the place was almost deserted, with several empty booths.

We left and had dinner at another restaurant down the block, which was great. But unlike Black Rabbit, they were crowded - something I don't expect is much of a problem at Black Rabbit with the sort of attitude they displayed towards us.

If you must have dinner in hipster central, skip the annoying hipster attitude and dine somewhere else.

  • Pros: Great space

great cocktails, interesting and eclectic beer list, delicious snacks

Black Rabbit is an excellent addition to the neighborhood. The food is great, try the welsh rarebit, a beer and cheese fondue with either tater tots or bread cubes. I had a great time holed up in one of the booths with my friends and I love that you don't have to get up to order drinks, waiters will appear with the touch of a button! The cocktail list changes everyday though they'll make you anything previously listed, try the 'cactus berry' a mix of tequila, red wine, lime juice and triple sec, it's like sangria with a kick! This is my new favorite place, beautiful yet relaxed, and they're always playing great music.

  • Pros: nice atmosphere, great food and drinks
  • Cons: none!
