What People Are Saying About Black Mountain Winehouse

No, the wine bar is not named for the North Carolina town; instead, it's a reference to a Led Zeppelin song, which makes the rock soundtrack a perfect fit. Manager Shane Smith has chosen small producer wines from all over the world: You'll find Lebanese and Greek alongside French and Italian. The mostly rustic list balances with hearty bites such as a white bean crostini and a pressed sandwich layered with Polish bacon and quince aioli. The interior--filled with small wooden tables--has the feel of an upstate farmhouse, and in fact the turn-of-the-century door came from one.
Editor's Tips
- Food Served:
- Cheese and oysters are always on the menu, and every day brings a new specials list, ranging from appetizers to desserts.
- Outdoor Seating:
- The bar has Adirondack chairs on its front patio for warm-weather relaxing .
- The Extras:
- In the winter months, a wood-burning fireplace heats the place up.

bad service

On Friday, February 19 at dinner time there was only one waiter for all tables. Our white wine was served at room temperature, the one waiter gave us a look when we asked for an ice bucket! The food took forever to arrive and we ended up cancelling the rest of the order and ran to another restaurant to finish our meal and enjoy dessert. I've been at this place several times and don't think I'll come back. I'm sure Michelle Williams and her entourage experienced the poor service as well!
- Pros: fireplace
- Cons: horrible service
Cozy and Intimate

Great cozy, little wine bar in Brooklyn where you can relax, unwind and enjoy a nice glass/bottle with some tasty fare without having to pay exorbitant prices. Selection was limited, yet reasonable and the service was excellent. Made us want to move to the neighborhood.
- Pros: Atmosphere, Service and Menu
- Cons: N/A
Nice cozy spot good for couples or small groups

My boyfriend and I went here on a cold rainy night and got to sit right by the beautiful fireplace. Very romantic spot, or somewhere you could hang out with close friends. The staff was nice but relaxed. There when you need them, but not in your face all night. They forgot one of our orders and brought us some cheese on the house to hold us over. Great wine list and great food menu that changes seasonally. My only criticism is that some of the portions were small, which made the food seem a bit over priced. Even if you don't live in the neighborhood, definitely worth a trip.
- Pros: Ambiance, good service
- Cons: Small portions on some dishes
Very Cozy

I went here on a Tuesday night at about 7. There was only two other people in the places and i met up with two of my friends. The place is small so it didnt feel akward tat we were the only people there. They have a great fireplace that makes the place very toasty and confortable. Perfect for a glass of red wine. I had the veggie sandwhich which had maybe one piece of vegetable and the rest bread but after three glasses of great red wine that the veryyyy helpful and knowledgeable waiter reccomended, it was good. My friends had two cheeses and they said it was very good. Great weekday cold weather spot!
- Pros: Cozy, good staff
- Cons: lack of veggies
Wonderful wine in a great venue

I have been walking by this place for months, always commenting on how the front chairs and the overall feel reminds me of where my dad is from in the Smokey Mountains. So, finally, we went in - and yes, it still reminds me of where my dad is from in the Smokey Mountains by way of decor, but not wine and food selection - that's all NYC sophisticated. Staff is really nice and it's very cozy in there. I can't wait to have a winter date there!
- Pros: Selection, decor
- Cons: Location?
