“The food was indeed delicious, pricey for a bar but this is not your typical bar food.”
what's the fuss?. hhmmmmm, the bloody mary was good. My brunch item, the biscuits and sausage gravy, cold and stale. Tasted like day old biscuits. My boyfriend received a rather frigid chicken fried steak.
Best cocktails in NY. If you haven't been to sidecar, go. Go now. The cocktails are hand-crafted, expensive, and worth every penny. I recommend the gimlet, but generally you can't go wrong with any of it. The cocktail list is a thing of beauty, no appletini bullshit, just authentic, traditional, American. The food is good, but the cocktails are the stars of this show.
Great Place to sit and relax. I love this place...I go there when I've had a hard day work just to relax and enjoy some drink. The food is good. I would recommond it
Overpriced and Overrated. This place lacks an inviting atmosphere due to its standoffish staff. Wine selection is terrible and the "house" wine was probably opened a week before it was served. We left it full on the table and payed our tab. This joint is a big bore and we will not be returning or recommending to any of our local friends.
Got Better with Time. Similarly to other reviewers, we were excited when this place opened up. We tried it the first week they were opened and were very disappointed, as were friends of ours who checked it out around the same time. We didn't go back for over a year and wondered why it was always packed. Well, we just gave it a second try and it was pretty wonderful. The atmosphere was relaxed but sophisticated. Our waiter always managed to find us despite the fact that we kept moving around to talk to friends. I had one sidecar, the specialty drink, served in a tiny, old-fashioned champagne glass trimmed with sugar. It was delicious, but wow, it was potent. One was definitely enough. I thought it was very reasonably priced at $9.00, especially since I only had to order one. I had the crispy, juicy fried chicken with root mash and a big serving of kale. My husband ordered the salmon served with lentils and beets and pronounced it "fantastic". The space is large, so we never felt the crowd pressing in on us. My one remaining gripe is that they really need to add more healthy dishes to the menu. But I'll definitely be back!
Terrible Gastropub.
As a South Park Slope resident, I was rather happy to see a restraunt/pub open up close to my place. Like any neighbor should, you give the place a shot, which I did..3 times. With an open mind and high hopes, for an otherwise bar-less end of 5th ave, my girlfriend and I went in for dinner..probably around the second week Sidecar was open. The food was absolutely terrible. Granted..for your second week of business, your menu isn't tweaked...your cooking oil isn't seasoned...you dont have a liquor license..But hey, a least have some good service! SHEESH! Anyway, my second experience with sidecar wasn't any better. The place had been open for at least a year, and the food was still terrible, (the fries still tasted like old bar peanuts and the burgers still tasted like boot leather) and the service was third rate, at best.
Well finally, the last straw. My girlfriend and I decided to give this place one last shot. Alas..there are no waiters available. Just then, some sort of hostess person told us there were no waitresses, and therefore we were unable to eat. Thats when we left and decided to go to Eurotrip! Seriously...this place stinks!
Great service prices sandwich beer burgers. I've been here 4 times since it has opened and I've enjoyed everything that I?ve tried. Burgers, fries, and everything in between. They are always pleasant! Great for late nite munchies.
Nice food, bad atmosphere. I love the steak frites and the sidecar club sandwich with their own potato chips. Both very tasty and reasonably priced for the portions. I don't really like to eat in there though because the music is turned up so loud you can barely hear yourself think let alone have a conversation with your dinner companion. Service tends to be a bit slow, but I guess that's what happens in any place that's packed like Sidecar usually is. Great food, but trust me and get it to go.
Hidden Treasure. Friends recommended Sidecar and its incredible fried chicken. The food was indeed delicious, pricey for a bar but this is not your typical bar food. Just think all the good, greasey, in your gutt deliciousness of bar food taken up a notch. I am looking forward to go back for more drinks and another round of friend chicken.
Delicious!. We're so glad to have a new spot like this in the neighborhood. The service was really great- attentive enough, but not too in-your-face, and the food is like comfort food turned up just a notch- really yummy. Not the cheapest place on the block, but there's plenty of that around here, and this is worth it!
