On election night we all had confidence in senator Obama's grand victory. We decided to celebrate and head over to Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn for some down to earth BBQ food. We heard lots of great raves about this restaurant which overlooks the Manhattan skyline and we were starved when we got there. Just 15 minutes later from Manhattan and our party of 8 was warmly greeted by the owner himself, Jake We felt right at home and ordered homemade ice teas and were served hot cornbread right away. For starters wer had the BBQ Sampler appetizer - buffalo wings, tenders, fried shrimps and mac and cheese. The fried calamari was tender and crisp with a tangy marinara sauce. For the mains, we ordered both the baby back and short ribs of beef. Incredibly tender with a fantastic BBQ sauce. The pulled pork came next-hot and smoky, then the Kansas City fried chicken. The Seafood Sampler - shrimps, scallops, catfish and oysters was prepared with skill. Lots of sides came with the dinner- collard greens, onion rings, sweet potato fries and homemade slaw. For dessert we had the excellent brownies and Key Lime Pie complements of Jake. All in all this was a great night for America and our taste buds. Go to Jake's for the best BBQ at the most reasonable prices.

I often go out of my way (clinton hill) to pick up dinners from Jakes. My favs are the short ribs, burgers, steaks, and chicken dinners. I enjoy occasionally asking the owner to suggest something, I've never been disappointed. I can't order an imported brew with my order, but thankfully I can bring my own in. I learned of Jakes from some of my neighbors. I think it's the best spot we've tried in Brooklyn. Extra, the owner actually shot the landscape photographs on the walls, it has a gallery feel.

• Cons: had to park 1/2 block away

Best ribs around

We decided to try the home delivery service at Jake's BBQ Restaurant last night. Our neighbors said it was very good, so we decided to make the investment. The baby back ribs and pulled pork are excellent as well as the meatless collard greens. The BBQ sampler dinner was a real bargain. Chicken, ribs, pulled pork, sausages with two sides and bread for only $24.95. It fed all three of us like kings and queens.

The wait was a little bit longer that we had expected but it was still OK considering the whole meal with tip was $50 and the lots of leftovers for a midnight snack.
