Area Yoga“As I have to work during the day (unlike most people who go to yoga studios), I like this center's early morning classes (7:15-8:30).”
“Yoga is expensive, spend your money somewhere else.”
Lots of classes, varied teachers. I've taken a few classes there, and they all have something different to offer. If you can get up in time, Alexis's class on Wednesdays at 7:15 AM is worth it. She gives options for different levels, but it's challenging. I've definitely been sore the next day, but always feel like I'm progressing and understand more about the poses.
teachers are great, everything else is not. First of all, the teachers are really good here. Find out the other places where they teach and go there instead! The space is okay, but it seems impossible to keep the studio clean when there are back to back classes. There are always dust and klennexes on the floor. There is a consistency problem at Area - things were different each time I went in in terms of the prices and what classes were being offered and the new special of the day. It seems unfair to have to choose a package and pay a couple hundred dollars for it when the prices and classes change on a daily basis. My biggest problem was hearing the employees frantically defend themselves on the phone with the owner. They are always on the phone talking about the cleanliness of the studio and they seem scared. Yoga is expensive, spend your money somewhere else.
Area Yoga is the best. I have been going to Area Yoga for over seven years. I have seen it grow and change but the core essence of the place has remained the same. I feel they offer great service and wonderful energy. Area Yoga is simply the best yoga studio I can find in the New York area. I say this as a lifelong yogini who believes strongly in the importance of yoga in my life. I am so grateful to have Area Yoga in my life. Thanks!
Needs help.
This studio is a mess and it's really no wonder- the owner, Loretta Gendville has spread herself all over Brooklyn in endeavors as varied as real estate, spa, children's stores and yoga. Her management style is insane and I hardly feel comfortable walking into a yoga studio and finding her screaming at employees.
Also, teachers are constantly subbing classes and some teachers are just not very good.
This place needs a major overhaul
Lesley's classes are the best!. I love this place and Lesley is the best teacher. I have learned so much from her. She makes everyone feel comfortable, no matter what level you are at. Check out one of her classes, you won't be disappointed.
great early morning classes. As I have to work during the day (unlike most people who go to yoga studios), I like this center's early morning classes (7:15-8:30). The teachers are kind and helpful, the vibe is low-key and I always leave refreshed.
Area Yoga is one of the best yoga studios. I moved into Caroll Garden just a few months ago. I had been practicing yoga for six years and I was happy to find a tranquil spot to continue at AreaYoga. I go about 1-2 times a week in the open classes. I also have a toddler who as infant joined me in the Mommy and Me sessions provided there. What I really got from this place in particular is the increase of spirituality. I have learned meditations and chants that other yoga studios cut. I have advanced considerably thanks to the wonderful teachers.
