Jive Turkey Is The Best.
I fell in love with the idea of fried turkey years ago, but did not know where to try it until I saw this place featured on the Travel Channel. Wonderful, Wonderful, Delicious and finger licking. I had the cheddar sandwich, which is like a melt that features fried turkey with turkey bacon. Loved it. Loved the Strawberry Lemonade, which is homemade. The staff was delightful and guided me through the menu and offered recommendations. I thought it was great and will be back.
VALUE: reasonably priced for the size of the portions
SERVICE: Friendly, Polite and Helpful
We saw this on TV! Best sandwiches ever!. Great place to eat. We drove miles to find this place, Brooklyn really needed this. Both my kids watch the Food Network and they absolutely love the place. Staff couldn't be nicer and the sandwiches are great. The BLT - Turkey Bacon Club was the best BLT I ever had, Parking was easy too.
DELICIOUS FRIED TURKEY. We saw them on TV and when we got there they greeted us like we were their long lost friends when we said "We saw you on TV" they must hear that 200 times a day. Our turkey was delicious, just like advertised. I also tried a specialty sandwich, the jerk sandwich was spicy and sweet. Their phone system told us exactly where they were as they recently moved, citysearch has the wrong info.
I loved it! Will return for more.. I enjoyed their bestseller which is the turkey which was juicy and moist and mashed potatoes, generous portions of $7.95. Recently having moved the place is under construction but is very cute inside with signage and tons of home baked desserts piled high on the counter. I can't wait to go back and get some of the other dishes, the BBQ ribs and catfish were highly recommended. The turkey chili was sold out by the time I got there but want that too.
Absolutely Terrible. The place was very unsanitary & had a terrible odor. I would not recommend anyone to eat here. I walked in & out because there is no way to enjoy a meal in a dump! Don't waste your time or money.
GOBBLE GOBBLE NOT. I have never been to a place where the attitude from the bird "dead turkey in this case" was better than the owner. I thought this was going to be a great experience but I have had the worst experience with this place. The food is all pre wrapped, so I am not sure when or how long it may have been in the cooler before someone comes along to purchase it. The turkey wraps are soggy, bland and tasteless. The other sandwiches were pretty much the same. The desserts were dry as an african desert. They only were accepting cash at the time, with no refunds or else I would have called my credit card company and had this one declined. The customer service is more like someone that works for the DMV, welfare office or city services, in other words, major attitude; however, the microwaved food isn't worth the abuse. I don't think I would return here even if someone else were picking up the tab. And, I definitely would not place an order for a whole fried bird based on my experince with the take-out. Do yourself, stomach and wallet a favor and by-pass this bird with no flavor. You may walk in but you won't Gobble out.
Don't Make the Trip. I saw Jive Turkey featured on TV a couple of times and have been dying to have some fried turkey since I had it at Thanksgiving once before. I made the trip to Brooklyn from Manhattan in great expectation to receive a hot, juicy turkey sandwich with fried skin included in it. I was extremely disappointed when after my placing my order the woman brought out the 2 sandwiches I ordered from the refrigerator. She unwrapped them and put them on a press for a couple of minutes then in the MICROWAVE! I was appalled but had already made the trip all the way to Brooklyn that I paid for them. Both of the sandwiches were still cold in the middle and my turkey was dry, I had to add some mayonnaise to it for some flavor as well, I threw half of it out. The total on my sandwiches came to $18, that's alot for a take out joint. You can also only order the sandwiches they have listed on their menu, no j erk chicken on a BLT - T bc it's already made. Another guy in there ordered a few platters and sides. The mac and cheese was macaroni with shredded cheese on top that was then popped into the microwave to cook. Don't waste your time here, they have a great concept of frying turkey in a city where its practically impossible to do at home but certainly do not live up to it.
My GO SPOT for Food on the GO! -- WONDERFUL Concept, GREAT Food.
I love this place! Everything is good from the macaroni & cheese (creamy & cheesy) to the Cajun Catfish (spicy and broiled) but they are known for deep fried turkey, which for the uninitated is delicious, moist juicy and succulent is not breaded or battered but deep fried whole and then carved up and used in sandwiches, salads and entrees. You can buy legs or wings or just breast meat.
This is a casual take out restaurant the place you go to when you want the kind of food you would make at home but don't want to peel potatoes and chop celery or eat potato salad for 4 days in a row.
The dishes are packed fresh daily and prepared to go, hot dishes are heated for you if you want to eat in. Sandwiches are both hot or toasty and warm and the homeade soup is great too!
They take orders for whole turkeys, which come in 15 different flavors, I've tried the Cajun and the Peach Bourbon both were big hits with my family.
I went to Jive 11/23/08 when i placed the order the cashier said they didn't have the full menu because,
they were very busy for Thanksgiving. So i ordered what was available, Turkey, Mashed Potatoes Veggies
and Gravy. Everything came in plastic container warmed in the Microwave. The Turkey was cold, so doesn't
matter if was fried or not, because is reheated. I will stick with the TV Dinner at least is cheaper.
No No No..
Really disappointed with the refrigerated, not fresh, selection. I walked in ready for a fried turkey meal, but the boxed, refrigerated turkey entrees didn't look good enough for the price. Nothing is appealing to me about walking into a restaurant and having to have something heated up.
I bought two sides, the cornbread dressing and the macaroni and cheese--both were tasteless. The macaroni and cheese was literally, macaroni and cheese, no salt, pepper or any other seasoning to speak of. At least salt the pasta water! And I just don't buy that all the food was made that day...mac & cheese takes awhile to congeal like that.
The cornbread dressing, which came with a side of gravy, was equally as seasonless--there's no reason for this. Didn't taste anything like cornbread and the gravy certainly didn't taste like it it came from a turkey...just flour and water.
I've had it with people taking my lunch money and giving me something less than stellar. There's no way I'd recommend this restaurant.
