The Scene
"Top Chef" contestant Camille Becerra may have been told to "pack her knives," but her Greenpoint restaurant is certainly slick enough for prime time. Concrete walls and low booths provide a clubby counterpoint to the rustic wood bar, while the bird logo hanging out front looks ready to be emblazoned on a T-shirt. The new-school neighborhood crowd dines amidst the glow of giant movie screen and abides the occasional Mariah Carey song on the soundtrack.
The Food
Starters on the New American menu include plump salt cod fritters accompanied by a tangy relish and a dish of white beans and spinach saved from dullness by chunks of crisp bacon. Entrees are as hit-and-miss as the music selection: The lamb shank is well-cooked, but accompanied by a runny polenta that's bright pink with beet juice, and the otherwise tasty burger suffers overcooking. Ready for their close-up: juicy, herb-infused chicken and a chile-tinged chocolate torte.
Hits: For diners (and drinkers) looking for something a little swankier in a neighborhood heavy with homey cafes, Paloma can scratch that itch.
Misses: Dishes can be overly ambitious, with a few too many ingredients tossed into the mix.

I gave this review 4 rather than 5 stars simply because the service was pretty bad. Even though it was a quiet Sunday night, and most of their tables were empty - our waitress took forever getting our order & forgot to bring our dessert! That being said, this place is really excellent - the food is great, there is an extensive list of specials, the wine list (by the glass) has a great selection, and the atmosphere is really cool - an enormous projector plays some funky retro movies, while 60s & 70s music was playing in the background. Overall, a fun & funky place to go for dinner

Paloma is a unique restaurant located in a polish part of Brooklyn, Green Point. From the outside you would never guess what you were in for, the doors looking slightly like something out of Santa clause's barn where his sledge is kept! Once your inside it opens up into a bar complemented with a dj which leads through to the restaurant that has a very cozy feel to it and decorated with Basque like art works which adds to the fun that Paloma is. The food is fantastic and well presented, if i had to describe it it reminds me of good home cooking, comfort food, the lamb shank is to good to be true and the portions are not so overwhelming even for America. Paloma also offer a good selection of cocktails as well as white and red wines. Great for birthdays, groups or just a nice romantic night out. Not to be missed!

It's the best thing I could ask for being a local and wanting a simple 9 dollar burger and a strong minty Myers mojito. The ambiance is chill and comfortable and the menu is delicious and affordable. I go at least twice a week. The menu changes weekly wish fish specials and seasonal salads. What more could a person like me (I don't have time to cook) want?
