My hair was RIPPED OUT!.
Hopefully this saves someone else… I wish someone had written a comprehensive review like this when I was doing my research.
Following an overpriced $45 consultation (the cost of which was NOT deducted from the cost of the application) during which I clearly explained to this woman that my extensions MUST match the texture of my own hair, I was still presented with bone straight, silky/shiny Indian hair on the day of my application. Now, I am an African-American female with relaxed hair that is nowhere near that description in texture. Going into this nightmare, I had a full head of thick, beautiful, healthy hair- but seriously, it was not bone straight, silky, or Indian…let’s get real! Wasn’t that the point of a consultation… so she could assess the type and condition of my hair? This tells me that she either doesn’t know what she’s doing or she straight up was not listening/disregarded what I wanted. She made me think that she understood exactly what I needed, but she obviously DID NOT! Seriously, is it too much to ask that you match the texture of my hair after a $45 consultation?
Anyway, let’s flash forward to the day of the application…I walked in to see this shiny bone straight hair and was really confused. However, she assured me that she was mixing in a few strands that were more of the yaky texture I had originally requested and that it would blend exactly the way I wanted it too. At the end of the application, I was again confused to find that her idea of styling the hair afterward was a simple trim. Now, during the consultation she did warn me, describing that she’s not a big stylist and could do simple styles, but not anything crazy. This raised no red flags or concerns for me at the time because I’m a simple person and am not into “crazy” styles anyway. But I didn’t think that a simple cut was considered crazy. I was thinking along the lines of feathering the tips out to create the look of layers- and after what I paid for the application, that should NOT have been a problem. Furthermore, when I asked her to use the barrel curling iron to create a few body curls at the ends so that it wasn’t so bone straight, she caught an attitude. She then proceeded to tell me that would be an extra charge, but must have realized how that sounded and did it anyway. Well, waking up the next day and seeing how boring my hair looked, I went to a real stylist and had her add some layers/body (which was more money that I had to spend.)
Now skip ahead to the day of my removal… these extensions did not come out as easily as I was made to believe they would. The process was painful and while I was assured that it felt and sounded (because I could hear the hair being ripped) much worse than it was, I knew that my hair was being ripped from the scalp. Instead of placing the solution on the attachments and coming back to them, she immediately attempted to work them out. After all of this, my hair is MUCH thinner- I’ve lost my thickness. I had a beautiful, full head of hair when I went into this… I just wanted to add some length and try something different. I regret it now! Now, when I part my hair to pin the front up, missing patches are visible along the part from where clumps must have been ripped out.
In the end, I should have known better. There were so many points when things did not seem right and I should’ve intervened, but I went along with it…when I saw that the hair was not the right texture- when she was unable to style it- when I felt the hair being pulled out during the removal. Now, I’ve paid the price in several ways and my wedding is just a few months away.
I do realize that this was a long review/account of my experience, but I hope that it will save another woman from experiencing my nightmare. I also hope that it has offered some lessons for dealing with any stylist in a situation that makes you uncomfortable… speak up or step away!
Very patient and gentle. Bo really cares a lot about hair. She did the strand by strand method on me and she moved quickly and efficiently. I was done before I realized it and my hair looks and feels great. I am a hair dresser also and she was not selfish in sharing her techniques. She is truly someone who I trust to do my hair as it is difficult to find someone who will take care of your hair as if it was their own. Thanks.
New Price Structure!!!!!!. Hey this is great! I was able to get all the hair extensions I needed this weekend with the new pricing that Bo Briggs offered. Here is a Stylist who works for and listen to her customers. She responds quickly to positive and negative feedback and gives fabulous hair extensions of all sorts. I came in with a budget and left with amazing micro links that was customized for my hair and my pocket! Thanks Bo
