If you've ever pondered the aesthetic of pairing a $5 thrift store tee with $250 jeans, then you'll probably appreciate the rehabbed irony of tractor-seats barstools at a white-tiled bar, and an antique-looking mantle surrounding a blazing digital fire. The carefully distressed details are everwhere--including the weathered indoor and outdoor picnic tables filled with 20- and 30-something carnivores. Though the restaurant's German name means "fat pig," it's the beef that gives Texas' best a run for the money. Both the brisket and the house-made pastrami benefit from a lengthy stay in the…
Disappointing

I've been to this place twice and have been disappointed twice. The ribs are just god awful. They charge by the pound so a half wrack (this site won't let me spell it correctly, apparently that's a naughty word) of ribs is around 35 bucks. They are the full rib cut, not the st. louis cut and I don't know if they are even bbq'd. There is no smokey flavor and the meat is very tough and chewy. I stopped eating them because I got tired of wrestling the meat off of the bones. The brisket is 85% fat, which you pay for because of the by the pound pricing. The baked beans were mediocre at best. The spicey sausage however is fantastic (I'm geussing they don't make it there, I may be wrong). The whiskey/scotch selection is also very impressive.
If you do go, go on a weeknight and then plan to wait in line and fight for a seat. Avoid the ribs and brisket, get the sausage (at a couple bucks a link you can't go wrong) and maybe some pulled pork (have yet to try that). If you're looking for fantastic BBQ however I would recommend getting on the L train and heading into the city. You can find far superior BBQ in the city for close to half the price that you would end up paying here.
Overall I would say this place isn't worth the lines, waiting for seats and insane prices.
Great BBQ, Super friendly service, Nice place to hang out

Went here for the first time last night with a friend and my wife. The brisket is amazing and so are the sausages. The atmosphere is extremely casual but the place is designed with a great sense of style and consistency. The employees were all extremely friendly, patient and helpful and the barman really knows his whiskeys and doesn't mind helping you to make a good choice.
Only cons: BBQ has to be accompanied by home-made corn bread for me which they don't have. Your clothes will smell like bbq pretty severely, even though the place is ventilated probably as well as it could be and it doesn't bother you while you are there.
- Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere, Whiskey
- Cons: No corn bread and somewhat stinky clothes ;)
Awesome BBQ in an equally awesome neighborhood

Best BBQ I've had since moving to the city. The quality of meat is second to none. Apparently, it's shipped from some special hippie farm where they treat the animals nice before they slaughter them. Beer is served in giant jars which is kinda fun.
- Pros: Meat is high quality, atmosphere is awesome
- Cons: Overeatting is common
The Details on Fette Sau
What to Drink:
Beer and bourbon are the drinks of choice. The New Jersey-brewed Gunslinger and Brooklyn-based Greepoint brewery both make rotating beers just for the bar. All brews come in half-pint, pint, half-gallon or gallon sizes and can be carried out.
The Extras:
There are three bottles of sauce on the table--the vinegar-based one pairs best with the meats, but there's also a sweet sauce and one made with smokey ancho chilis.
Fun Fact:
Owners Kim and Joe Carroll also run the beer-haven, Spuyten Duyvil, which is right across the street.
When to Go:
Show up before 7pm for a shorter line and less chance the restaurant will run out of your favorite meat.
