“Extremely affordable authentic Mexican food!”
Awesome Mexican Food. Chevella's has the best Mexican food. Visiting my daughter from out of town and going to Brooklyn was a fresh air. the best margarita and tacos. Yummy
Wow mexican Food. I came here for brunch. The best mexican food ever. Love the new location. It was a bit long line, but don't mind waiting for best brunch ever.
Pet friendly mexican. the ambience is great here, which really isnt a surprise for this quaint up and coming neighborhood. Make sure to get the corn, and the tacos are to die for. My dog was welcomed and was allowed to sit next to my table on the patio.
Best Mexican in Brooklyn.
This little neighborhood gem is tops on my take out rotation. I've yet to have something I dislike from Chavella's.
Order Plato Don - enough for lunch (steak) & dinner (chicken) for $14.
some of the best home made rice pudding!
Extremely affordable authentic Mexican food!!!!
Best Mexican in the Heights.
This small neighborhood place is amazing.
Maybe 7 or 8 2-person tables fill this small hole-in-the-wall and the 1 waitress bounces around with a smile making sure everyone is happy. And they are.
Fantastic Mexican food for an unbeatable price. I grew up in San Diego and am always on the lookout for authentic Mexican and this is it. Everything is so fresh, you can practically see everything being made in the kitchen.
Everyone on staff is exceptionally nice to customers and service is great, even delivery is served hot.
Still BYOB so stock up on Negra Modelo at the neighboring bodegas before going inside.
It won't be long before they need a bigger place. I can't wait!
Great addition..... Great addition to the area. We need more places like this! Please support the Chavella's so that more small business owners consider Prospect Heights!!!
A Gem in The 'Hood. We live across the street and have been customers from the start. This is a small, cozy, BYOB, local joint that never disappoints. The food is fresh, authentic and satisfying. The selection is large enough to please most palates and the price is small enough to please most pockets. They also have quick delivery for the homebodies. If you're in the area it will be worth your try!
A charming buzz emanates from this Prospect Heights cantina, where high-end ingredients meld with the authentic spirit of a taqueria..
The Scene
The sunny, tile-splashed facade of this nuevo cantina adds a good dose of color to the neighborhood and wouldn't look out of place in Los Angeles. A flotilla of delivery bicycles at the entrance signals a brisk takeout business, but the mosaic-tiled lanterns, candle sconces and Mexican folk rock soundtrack make eating-in appealing.
The Food
Choice starters on the authentic, multi-regional Mexican menu include chunky guacamole with pico de gallo that's served with mini corn tortillas, or the tlacoyos, masa cakes filled with black bean paste and smothered in queso fresco. Onions that might normally be diced raw with cilantro are instead grilled and folded into marinated steak tacos, making for a pleasant richness. Fiery tortilla soup, however, doesn't have nearly enough creme fraiche to balance its substantial spiciness. If you're too full for cinnamon-specked arroz con leche, swipe some eucalyptus-flavored gum from the jugs adorning each table.
Hits: A nice change for a neighborhood otherwise overfilled with Chinese and Caribbean take-out.
Misses: Those with sensitive taste buds might find the spicing a bit heavy handed.
Excellent local mexican.
I've been here a number of times and we've always been very pleased with the food and the service. Many eateries in the crown heights area tend to lack in the service area but we've always had prompt and pleasant service here.
The menu isn't extensive and its not loaded with traditional americanized items like tacos and burritos so if you're just looking for a no-frills taco joint, this isn't it. The portions are smaller than other mexican places I've eaten at but they're quite satisfying and the food is considerably better than most. So be sure to get an appetizer or have a taco with your meal.
Vegetarians will be pleased with the selection and they currently don't serve beer so bring your own (there's a bodega next door). The brunch is also well worth a visit.
