“would recommend going there in a small group-- not a kids place and not necessarily a cozy romantic place either.”
“The crowd is relaxed and chill so it's a really comfortable place to just sit, talk and drink nice cocktails.”
“Great cocktails, great food deals”
“The bar section is fabulous - the beer and wine selections are good and the bartenders are knowledgeable and able to make good spontaneous cocktails based on your preferences.”
“We went to a nice Greek restaurant right across the street and had some of the best food I've eaten in a while.”
“By that time we realized it would be a good idea to order our entire meal as not to wait for the waitress to come back for our dinner order.”
“t. Three times now I have visited Flatbush Farms on a Sunday afternoon and received horrible service.”
“Great cocktails, great food deals”
“Then i got the worst grits in my life that tasted like it was not cooked long enough.”
Order lovely cocktails from the bar or dine at the restaurant; either way the garden is big & cool in the summer
How is this palce still open?. I honestly don't even know where to begin. My boyfriend and I are avid restaurant goers, and we are always on the lookout for new places and our friend had recommended Flatbush Farms. We arrived and were seated immediately, which made us both happy. We ordered our appetizers, I ordered the chicken and my boyfriend the salmon. Everything was going good until we got our meals. I took one look at the chicken and I was appalled. It was served with skin, over a bed of extremely undercooked spinach and mashed potatoes. My boyfriend asked me if I wanted to switch and eat his salmon instead, while he de-skinned the chicken so that I could enjoy the white meat. I took one bite from the $24 salmon, and I have never, in the 17 years I have been going to restaurants tasted salmon as fishy, as dry, and as bland as the one in Flatbush Farms. At this point, the waitress comes over and asks us if everything was okay, I was literally so shocked that I was speechless and didn't say anything, and guess what, the waitress WALKED away. So, I switch with my boyfriend again to see if maybe I could stomach the meat and spinach again, but the spinach was so undercooked that I just could not bite through it. I couldn't even enjoy the mashed potatoes because it was hidden completely under the chicken and spinach. I've had better chicken at BBQs!!!! So I decide to report back to the waitress because it was completely inedible. Guess what, I waited for TWENTY minutes before she came over and when she finally did, she says, "oh well, I wish you would have said something earlier" No apology, nothing. After that she simply took our plates, walked away, came back another TWENTY minutes later with the bill and the chicken on it!!!!!!!!!!!! No desert menu, no apology, nothing!!!!!! I was literally going to explode, but instead, my boyfriend took the bill and went to find the manager. This is where it really really gets bad: the manager said, there is absolutely nothing we can do, it's a matter of taste that she didn't like it, and I cannot comp it. Again, no apology, no is there anything else I can get you, no can I get you a drink to make up for it, nothing!!!! We refused to pay for it because at this point it had nothing to do with the food anymore. The level of rudeness was preposterous. The manager came to the table and said we can do what we want, so we paid for what we did enjoy, the drinks and appetizers, and walked out. I HAVE NEVER EVER HAD SUCH AN UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. THIS STAFF SHOULD BE FIRED. UNACCEPTABLE.
Dumbfoundingly Poor.
This was, from start to finish, a mind-bogglingly uncomfortable experience. Lexicographers take note: a new and fascinating definition of rudeness is alive and flourishing right here in Brooklyn.
The servers at Flatbush Farm appear to have perfected that ghastly technique of making you feel guilty and ashamed for deigning to attract their attention. Polite acknowledgement is out; supercilious scorn is in. And how many times can you pick up the same perfectly aligned set of napkins, inspect them vapidly and plonk them down in exactly the same place instead of venturing a glance at people who are there to help you make the rent?
A different server enhanced the fun, dumping our entrees in front of us halfway through our appetizer (which was delicious). Overall the food quality was pretty good, though I hear the salmon is much better when it hasn't sat cooling in front of the guest.
The place has a nice fit-out, some attractive furnishings and, from what I could tell, a reasonable wine list (I was given the food menu when I asked for the carte des vins)
At $120 for two people, however, this in no way represents value, unless you're looking to pay by the hour for passive-aggressive torture. On that scale, it's a world-beater.
Fractured Fairy Tale Or Wasted birthday celebration.
Did I expect too much? Just call it Chili for Chrissake.
The "Heirloom Legume" item. Did you have to play with me like that? Get me all worked up for a tantalizing taste sensation and then wait... and.... here it comes..... Chili. And don't charge me $20 bucks for it. You deserve a smack in the head. That's a greater profit margin than the top shelf booze. Your description on the menu, a bit aggrandizing wouldn't you say for CHILI? Don't get me started.
So rude!!!.
I went with JWILS. Her review is above.
I was one of the people that went for this horrible experience. My friend is 100% right in the experience we had. The hostess was rude and I got a distinct feeling that they did not want to serve us. The only thing that my friend left out is that when we sat down at the bar the bartender disappeared. I asked for a menu and the same waitress looked at my like I was insane. I was shocked that my friends wanted to stay after the waitress said, "can I help you" and "how many are in your party." What? The three of us standing in front of her should have been an indication of how many of us there were. We didn't look like the other patrons in there so unfortunately I think that may have been part of the problem. Shame on this place for the horrible rude staff and non-existent customer service.
Service is deplorable!!.
After driving around with a couple of friends, we noticed the sign for Flatbush Farms and thought it would be a cool place to catch dinner on a Sunday evening.
We went inside and was met with the hostess who looked my friends and I up and down and said in the RUDEST tone ever, "Can I Help You?" Really?! I don't think I walked into the Gap or H&M...this is a restaurant...what do you mean can i help you? You should start off by something like welcome to Flatbush Farm would you like to join us for dinner...something like that...
So I didn't walk out, I said yes we would like a table for dinner. She looked at the THREE people standing in front of her and said with such a deadpan expression...How Many? Again, I didn't walk out, I said its 3 of us.
It was a 30 min wait so we sat the bar. Fine, we'll have drinks and chat and wait.
There was a couple that just got up from the bar and the man left his cell on the counter. I said to the hostess, "someone left there cell phone at the bar...I think it belongs to the couple that just got up" WELL, she looked at me like I had just spoken in Swahili and grew two heads right in front of her because she stared at me for a moment, then rolled her eyes and DID NOT RESPOND!! At this point, my friends and I looked at each other, and left. As we were leaving I hear her yell behind us, oh you're leaving. I just kept going b/c I don't have the type of personality that can be calm in these types of situations. My friends were polite and said yes we've changed our minds but I just walked out. We went to a nice Greek restaurant right across the street and had some of the best food I've eaten in a while.
PLEASE DONT GO HERE!! The other reviewers are RIGHT! The service is deplorable!!!
Delicious! Was I in the right place? :). Myself and four friends dined at Flatbush Farm last night and it was a great! I was apprehensive about this place from reading the reviews and was pleasantly surprised before, during and after the meal. I feel like I went to a different restaurant. One with scrumptious food (my husband and I had the mouth watering steak for two), good service, and no greasy haired waitress. Hmmmm......I smell high maintenance customers frequenting this area. Hello? This is far from fine dining and the cool, aloof service is probably a result of your high maintenance self barking away at the wait staff. This place is CASUAL and very mellow. We had a very nice server who appeared when she was needed and waited on other tables when we didn't need her. Oh my God, yes there were other tables there who also looked extremely pleased with the food. I saw the half chicken entree float by and it was HUGE. Nice portions - the steak for two is not for light eaters. So, for those of you wondering where the server was on a busy night, she was...let me take a wild guess here, WAITING on other tables because you were probably not the only table there. Whew! I know you probably didn't realize this. The prices are reasonable (organic = expensive, park slope(ish)=expensive, year 2009 economy tanking = expensive) and the food is very tasty. If you need to count your pennies to have dinner, perhaps you should stay home and cook your own dinner!
get out while you can. in fact, just don't go there to start with. caveat emptor..
wow. after living in the area for three years, i finally went to the flatbush farm tonight. my wife and i were really excited.
the only understanding that i can offer them:
we waited 20 mins for table. no problem. saturday night.
and that is the end of the courtesy.
after being seated. five minutes until the "waiter" came over. told us of the specials, was insulted that we were not ready to order and did not come back for an additional five minutes. the wonderful beginning of the attempted fleecing began with the MP price skirt steak for 35$! skirt steak? really? after asking him to repeat the price thereafter he claimed to be "mixed up" and that the skirt steak was 22$. fine.
the salad ap came within 15. which was very good to be honest.
the wine came 25 minutes after.
the food came 10 after that.
the bread that was apparent at the tables of all else was apparently a commodity, as ours never came.
the skirt steak was literally cold to the touch, the salmon was a sad portion and also not even warm. we drank a half glass of the wine barely each. sent the food back. after telling the indignant pseudo-boratesque tool waiter that we were done here. i had to go and request the manager, who was the only nice part of the evening, after telling him briefly of the case, he absorbed the bill, apologized, and said to give the farm another try.
after which my wife and i went beast, and had a delicious and fairly priced meal - which is usual for beast.
i will NEVER again go to flatbush scams, er flatbush farms.
the worst service i have ever had in new york <wendy's is better>, terrible food <see: wendy's>, and indignant and disinterested staff <ok: same as wendy's> - bottom line.
go anywhere else. anywhere. soda, barette, beast, anywhere. let this sore die.
bad staff.
I generally like this place. The food is good. The design of the space is good.
But the service is HORRID!
I was there for brunch recently, and we were tag teamed by a waitress and a waiter. The waiter delivered our food while holding what appeared to be a plastic bag of garbage in one hand. I can't believe that it was, but please put the bag down before delivering food! The waitress came to check in on us every few minutes, and began to clear the plates while half of us were still eating (a big pet peeve of mine that happens almost everywhere, so I try to ignore it). I couldn't ignore the fact that she reach over the plate of one of my friends, who was in mid bite, to clear the table. She then put the check down without asking if we were done, and came to check on the bill every two minutes, even though we were one of three occupied tables. I wish I could like this place more, and I wish someone would retrain the staff.
Come Here and Chillax... Dinner at Flatbush Farm is just a great all around dining experience. Personable, attentive waitstaff, serving wonderfully seasoned, nicely cooked, fresh ingredients in a sociable yet relaxing atmosphere at terrifically reasonable prices. The most compelling selling point about this busy local joint, for me, is the outdoor dining area in the back. On a clear and cool night, eating out back at this place makes for a perfect evening.
