“Very casual atmosphere and good service.”
“The prices were also reasonable; with 2 beers and 2 limonades, the total was around $80 and we had leftovers for a hefty meal for one.”
“The food was FANTASTIC.”
“First visit: eat in: 2.5 hours-rude waitress-rude host-remade order 2 times due to lack of menu items-still didn't get the full order-no comps”
“Smoke Joint has great food, the mac and cheese parallels blue smoke in the "creaminess-factor" but other than that, the experience was disappointing. The woman who took our order had no idea what she was doing, maybe the fumes had gotten to her, but even ”
“The service is quite good, considering that it's a cafeteria style-esque set up.”

“Best Smoke meat I've had for a very long time”

Fort Greene's bbq joint is yummy (though not top-notch bbq), but can be crowded and slow on service. Go for the ribs and brisket.
This brooklyn barbecue does a decent job with its pulled pork, ribs, and etc. -- but the real draw here is an out-of-control hot dog that is easily the borough's best.
Finally, great BBQ, not just in Brooklyn, but all of NYC.
Being from North Carolina (land of BBQ-in fact the BBQ scene there is so contentious that it actually divides the sate) I was so happy to find this place. I have eaten at the big and little BBQ joints in NYC, trying in vain to find my favorite food and resonably priced (honestly, $17 for a pork platter at Blue Smoke, how can you even be serious?). What I've found so far is that so many of them are trying to do "Southern" style of BBQ and most of them do it haphazardly and it ends up over all bad and hokey. The Smoke Joint really steps out and makes no apologies to be their own brand of BBQ, certainly from their menu there are some throwbacks to the south ( it is BBQ, so you can't and shouldn't completely ignore the influence), but it is done very well. The rubs on the smoked meat is well balanced, the sauces are outstanding and the pickles, well they are just delicious. The service is fast and friendly and most importantly, they are dedicated to the cause of creating a good meal. I highly suggest this place to all BBQ fans and to anyone who enjoys a well crafted meal.
*And as for the post that says "I have been eating BBQ all over the country" where have you been eating BBQ? California? Come south, eat real BBQ and then you'll appreciate the gem that is the Smoked Joint.
Worst BBQ around!.
Yuck!!
I know most NYers don't know jack about BBQ, but this place is truly sub-standard. I have eaten BBQ all over the country and let me tell you, this is not what it is supposed to taste like regardless of what style of BBQ you are eating!
My husband and I have eaten there twice. The first time was so-so, and we were willing to give them another try. The last time, we had rib tips, mac n' cheese, ribs and their catfish and some cornbread. The rib-tips were greasy and all fatty-almost no meat. The catfish was so bad even my cat wouldn't eat it- mushy, not even skinned before being breaded- something any first year chef knows to do. The coarse cornbread was lacking in flavor and had the texture of styrofoam. The mac also lacked in chesse flavor and the ribs were mediocre. A real disappointment. The word has spread among serious southern BBQers around the neighb as I have friends who said "Don't eat there, I hear it's lousy!!" Too bad really as they could do soo much better if they served quality food with some flavor. I suggest going somewhere else!
On another note, their "lil piggy market" next door has good bread (NOT made by them) and good coffee, except they don't open before lunchtime.
Excellent ribs, at a fair price. Great place to hang out. On a recommendation, we decided to try this place. You know when a line to get in is so long, the place HAS to be good. Servers where overly friendly, the place was very homely but clean, and way to many yuppies for my taste, but is where they live, so..... Then the food. AMAZING bny any standards. If you check my past reviews, you'll notice that we are all about meats and pastas, but here we even ate the cole slaw!!!. THAT good. Very original drinks, setup, etc. We tried both beef and pork ribs, and needles to say, we'll be back very soon, regardless of how far it was.
Ok BBQ, not nearly worth the trip. Having eaten BBQ across the U.S. and NYC, this place cannot compete except for the fact that there are very few smoked BBQ places around. Pork ribs were too dry/overcooked. The beans lacked a distinguishable flavor and the mac n cheese was mostly dry and had a sharp vinegar taste. The potato salad was good and the wait was over 35 minutes for take out on a Tuesday.
I love this bbq.
Well done Smoke Joint, well done,
So far I've had the pork sandwich, chicken sandwich, baby back ribs, slaw, beans, fries, & mac and cheese.
All were sensational... good amount of sauce and spice on all, and the beans were damn tasty. I particularly liked that they packed the meat separately on my to go sandwich, so that it traveled better + I got a free pint container. The service is quite good, considering that it's a cafeteria style-esque set up. I wish I was eating there right now. They have a good selection of beers too, I've had the Pork-slap and the Brooklyn Hefe-weissen as well as one other I can't recall.
We'll see what happens with their expansion to next door, I'll come back for the BBQ either way.
Great neighborhood restaurant. The barbecue was delicious. My group of 4 had the pork ribs, crispy catfish and the short beef ribs with smoky greens, spiced corn on the cob and fries. Everything had that wonderful smoky grilled taste even the corn. The meat was flavorful and juicy. I did not expect the great service. Even though you order at the counter and pick up your food there, the staff will help manage the crowds, tidy up your table and inquire how the meal is. The prices were also reasonable; with 2 beers and 2 limonades, the total was around $80 and we had leftovers for a hefty meal for one. It is a small place though so order takeout for a large group.
Nothin' but luv. heck if your in fort greene and have a hankering for some BBQ then this is your place. straight up good ribs ( duh...like you would open a BBQ joint with out mastering your ribs)....i like the mayo slaw, but you can choose the vinager if you want. its nice to have choices. and you do have choices, including a ceaser salad with chopped meat. yummy! i'm from the buffalo area so im personaly offended by the pass off of buffalo but im sure there good enough. ( Buffalo is in the house! ). the vibe there is great and i've had good honest conversations with a bunch of nice people that work there ( do you really need to post it online if that was your only gripe, i mean really? if everytime you went i could understand, but once? ) if you find yourself a fan of beer in the can than you should have a good time picking ( try the pork slapp ) and for the true tasters out there, the ones who will try anything once,.......celery soda.......no really, try it just to say you did!
So down home. Guy had a terrible attitude on the phone..put me on hold. Then told me he would deliver to Franklin...then changed his tune and said only to Classon..(I live maybe 3 buildings past Classon)....he repeatedly was cutting me off saying "Im sorry"...you know those "Im sorries" you say when your not sorry, like those rude "Im sorries" that people say to cut you off ..... Funny how a place that does "Down Home BBQ" suddenly wont go past Clinton Hill and into Bed-Stuy If the food tastes like the way this guys attitude was..then I am sure its tastes horrible
Great Food ,chefs and customer service.
Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would say I am from Maryland but I would definetly recommend this restaurant to all my friends on their way to the Big Apple and more specifically Brooklyb. The Smoked chicken is really of the Hook as well as the Mac&cheese yummy
I went back the next day for the SSSSSSSSHHHHHHHRRRRIIIIMMMP it was delicious with some greens
The customer service is wonderful and I got the chance to talk to chef Amadou nice and helpful
To anyone make sure you stop by Brooklyn don't take the chance to miss out on efficient service as well as wonderful tasty food
Best Smoke meat I've had for a very long time
Hmmm Brooklyn. I really like this place. I went on a Tuesday. It wasn't crowded but there are limited seats. Very comforable place just to get a good piece of BBQ. i had the Baby got back ribs. They were good and I was given 3 tasting sauces. All of them were equally yummy. The mac and cheese was good and creamy just the way i like it. Looking forward to tasting some other things
