Not what I had hoped for. Went to dinner at Bocca Lupa for the first time and was not impressed. I found the cheese plate options very unexciting. When my date wanted to omit something from one of the panini sandwiches we were told that they were pre-made (??) and they would not accommodate. I ended up ordering a panini anyway, and it was soggy because the pesto had been sitting on the pre-made sandwich for who knows how long. It wasn't all disappoint, however. I had a delicious soup and the olive plate was excellent. Decent wine list, too.

Love the place. I've been to this restaurant on a number of occasions and had nothing but wonderful experiences. The veggie and goat cheese panini is delicious, servers are very friendly, excellent wine selection and quaint ambience. I've never been anything but extremely pleased with my experience. I think it's definitely worth checking out. The prices are very reasonable and they have a great kids menu!

between infuriating and comically bad. The first time I went to Bocca Lupo for dinner we were moved to another table not once, but twice, to accommodate larger parties. Not a big deal. So then my entree was dropped while in transit to our table. The staff was apologetic and we got free dessert. I chalked this up to the newness of the restaurant and figured they were still working out the kinks.

So I go a month later for brunch and despite being told we could "sit wherever," we were moved to accommodate a larger party. Deja vous...

The ingredients of most of the dishes are pretty creative so we had to ask about the unfamiliar items, since we are vegetarians. The server helpfully explained everything and we ordered our food.

45 minutes later we are still waiting, our space occasionally invaded by the screaming children at the next table. Then the server tells us that she forgot to put our order in and that it would be out in a sec. Many, many plates come out for other diners and we were getting annoyed.

A full 75 minutes after we ordered we got one of the dishes with a promise that the next plate would be out in 15 seconds, which turned out to be 10 more minutes.

I get a few bites into my panini only to discover that there is prosciutto in it--even after we explained to the server that we were vegetarians.

So essentially I waited 90 minutes for something I could not eat. The server promised complimentary pudding. No thanks!

I am not a picky diner but this was probably the worst restaurant experience I have ever had.

Eat here at your own risk!

The sleepy side of Cobble Hill wakes up to Italian small plates.. The Scene
Restaurants open so infrequently on Cobble Hill's west side that neighbors instantly filled this corner spot with an attractively priced wine list and stay-a-while bar. Genuinely friendly service further ingratiates the Italian charmer, whose name translates as "good luck."

The Food
Bocca Lupo is not immune to the overload of choices that plague small plates menus. Lean towards hearty fare for best results: The sausage, fennel and caramelized onion bruschetta melts agreeably in the mouth, and the sweet sausage panini with slightly bitter broccoli rabe feels made for a hearty bottle of red. However, the small sandwiches on untoasted bread called tramezzini are too expensive for their size. Better to jump into plates like the luscious veal meatballs or the shrimp scampi, floating in a buttery sauce that begs for extra bread. Be prepared for inconsistency--one night the risotto tasted burnt, the next luscious, and the cheese plate wavered from mind-blowing to disappointing.
